the King of Italy, within Her Majesty's dominions,
shall be liable to be apprehended and carried on
board their respective ships: Provided always that if
any such deserter has committed any crime in Her
Majesty's dominions, he may be detained until he has
been tried by a competent Court, and until his
sentence (if any) has been fully carried into effect.
And Her Majesty, by virtue of the powers vested
in her by the said "Foreign Deserters Act, 1852,"
and by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, is
further pleased to order and declare that, upon and
after the publication hereof in the London Gazette,
the Order in Council relating to seamen who desert
from merchant ships belonging to subjects of the
King of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, made by
virtue of the said Act, on the 19th day of August,
1853, and published in the London Gazette on the
23rd day of August, 1853, and the Order in Council
relating to seamen who desert from merchant ships
belonging to subjects of the King of Sardinia, made
by virtue of the said Act on the 10th day of March,
1855, and published in the London Gazette on the
13th day of March, 1855, shall be revoked, and the
same are hereby revoked accordingly.
And the Right Honorable the Lords Commis-
sioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, and the Secretary
of State for India, in Council, are to give the
necessary directions herein accordingly.
Notice in accordance with Section 145 of "The Muni-
cipal Corporations Act, 1876," by the Mayor of
Westport.

SIR,-I have the honor to give you notice that, at
a poll of the burgesses of this borough, taken at
Westport, under section 142 of "The Municipal
Corporations Act, 1876," on the 12th day of Decem-
ber, 1877, the following Resolution was carried,
seventy-one voting for and nineteen against the
proposal:-
PROPOSAL TO RAISE A SPECIAL LOAN,
Upon which a Poll will be taken upon the 12th December, 1877.
Schedule.

Formation, gravelling, and draining, and partial
construction of footpaths, Palmerston Street, the
south side of Rintoul to the north side of Wallabi
Street. -
Constructing a drain along Rintoul Street, from
the Buller River to Queen Street. -
Constructing a drain along Henley Street, from
the Buller River to Peel Street. -
Forming Cobden Street, from Palmerston Street
to Derby Street, 30 feet wide, and metalling 12 feet
wide. -
Forming Henley Street, 30 feet wide, from
Romilly Street to Derby Street, and metalling 12
feet wide, and increasing the present width of Hen-
ley Street from Palmerston Street to Romilly Street,
by 6 feet. -
Clearing, forming 30 feet wide, and metalling
12 feet wide Brougham Street, from Palmerston
Street to the municipal boundary, and extending the
present drain to Queen Street. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide that portion
of Queen Street not already made between the Nine-
mile Road and the beach. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and metalling
12 feet wide, Fonblanque Street, from Palmerston to
Derby Street. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and metalling
12 feet wide, Bentham Street, from Palmerston Street
to Derby Street. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and metal-
ling 12 feet wide, Romilly Street, from Henley Street
to Cobden Street. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and metal-
ling 12 feet wide, Peel Street, from south side of
Pakington Street to the beach. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and metal-
ling 12 feet wide, Pakington Street, from Russell
Street to Derby Street, and the road widened 6 feet
and metalled from Palmerston Street to Russell
Street. -
Connecting Rintoul Street drain by pipe drain,
extending south, say, 990 feet along Palmerston
Street, and widening Palmerston Street from Rintoul
to Roebuck Street. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and gravel-
ing 12 feet wide, Lyndhurst Street, from Palmerston
to Russell Street. -
Forming and metalling Wakefield Street the
whole width, from Palmerston Street to McLeod's
Wharf; and clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and
metalling 12 feet wide, Wakefield Street, from Queen
Street to Derby Street. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and metal-
ling 12 feet wide, Russell Street, from the north side
of Henley Street to the south side of Fonblanque
Street. -
Clearing and forming 30 feet wide, and metal-
ling 12 feet wide, Roebuck Street, from Queen to
Derby Street. -
Making covered drain along Bright Street,
from Russell Street to the river.
The sum proposed to be borrowed for the above
purposes is £6,000, repayable at the expiration of
seven years from date of issue of debentures, and
bearing interest in the meantime at the rate of £7
per centum per annum.
Applications may be sent in for the whole or any
portion of the loan, but no debentures will be issued
for a less sum than £50.
Interest will be paid half-yearly, and separate
coupons for each half-year's interest will be attached
to each debenture.
The special rate, and other property which it is
proposed to pledge as security for the interest on
such loan, consist of a special annual rate of sixpence
in the pound upon the whole of the rateable property
within the borough, and all the rents accruing from
the leasing and letting of the municipal reserves.
Whenever the principal becomes due the Council
will raise a new special loan to pay off the same.
I have the honor to request that you will be so
good as to publish this notice in the New Zealand
Gazette, as provided by section 145 of the Act.
