Gold-Mining Lease to be granted.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of
"The Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations
made under that Act for the granting of leases for
gold-mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is
intended to grant a lease for gold-mining purposes of
Crown lands to the applicants specified in the annexed
Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against
such lease.

Objections to granting such lease, stating the
grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and
lodged with the Warden at Kanieri, on or before
the 25th day of May, 1878.

Copy of the application made and plan annexed
may be seen at the Warden's Office at Kanieri.

SCHEDULE.

SAMUEL WILLIAMS and PARTY. Style under which
it is intended to conduct the business: "United
Quartz Gold-Mining Company." Four hundred by
two hundred yards, in the Westland Mining District.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
sixteenth day of April, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-eight.

Change of Purpose of Reserve at Ashburton,
Canterbury.

Wellington, 9th April, 1878.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Go-
vernor intends, under the provisions of the 148th
section of "The Land Act, 1877," to change the
specific purpose of the land described in the second
column of the Schedule hereto for which the land was
heretofore set apart as a reserve, as specified in the
first column of the said Schedule, to the specific
purposes specified in the third column of the said
Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

Description and Purpose of Reserve. Area for which the Purpose is intended to be Changed. Intended Purpose.
Sections marked O and P, two (2) roods, Town of Ashburton, Provincial District of Canterbury. For municipal purposes. Provincial Government Gazette, No. xx., Vol. xi., 1864, p. 85 All that piece or parcel of land in the Town of Ashburton, in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing two (2) roods, more or less, being Section No. 769 (in red). Bounded towards the North-east by Section No. 238 for a distance of two (2) chains ; towards the North-west by Baring Square for a distance of two (2) chains fifty (50) links; towards the South-east by Section No. 228 for a distance of two (2) chains fifty (50) links; and towards the South-west by Havelock Street for a distance of two (2) chains: as the same is delineated on the plans deposited in the Provincial District Survey Office, Christchurch. As a site for Ashburton County Council Offices.

Gold-Mining Leases cancelled.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor has been pleased to pronounce the
under-mentioned gold-mining leases cancelled :-
No. 171. "The Culliford Gold-Mining Company,"
4 acres 1 rood, in the District of Wangapeka.
No. 188. "The Doran's Reef Gold-Mining Com-
pany," 5 acres 1 rood 30 perches, in the District
of Wangapeka.

Alterations and Additions to the Rates for the Con-
veyance, Delivery, and Storage of Goods, Parcels,
&c., on all the New Zealand Railways.

IN accordance with the By-laws for the New Zea-
land Railways, fixed by Order in Council, dated
the 17th day of April, 1877, the following alterations
to the rates for the conveyance, delivery, and storage
of goods, parcels, &c., on all the New Zealand Rail-
ways are hereby declared to be fixed, and shall come
into force from the 1st day of May, 1878:-

Previous rates relative to empties are hereby can-
celled.

RETURNED EMPTIES CERTIFED BY CONSIGNORS TO
HAVE PASSED OVER THE LINE FULL.

Carriage must be prepaid unless there be an ar-
rangement with the consignee to the contrary.

The following is the scale of charges for the con-
veyance of empties to and from all stations :-

Not exceeding 50 miles, 0 6 per cwt.
51 to 100 ,, 0 9 ,,
101 to 150 ,, 1 0 ,,
151 to 200 ,, 1 3 ,,
201 to 250 ,, 1 6 ,,
251 to 300 ,, 1 9 ,,
301 to 400 ,, 2 0 ,,
401 to 500 ,, 2 6 ,,

The minimum weight charged for, half (Β½) a cwt.
Minimum charge, three pence (3d.) in each case.

EMPTIES.

Empties which have not passed over the line full,
Class A.

SEEDS.

Previous rates relative to the conveyance of seeds
are hereby cancelled, and following classification
substituted:-

Hemp and mustard will be carried as Class A;
clover, grass, and other agricultural seeds not
specified, as Class B; canary, carraway, cori-
ander, and turnip, as Class C; flax, linseed,
and rape, as Class E.

SUNDRIES.

Previous rates relative to conveyance of several
packages of different classes forwarded by one
consignor to same consignee are hereby cancelled,
and the following will be adopted in substitution
thereof:-

When a consignor sends to the same consignee
several packages of different classes, A, B, C, D, E,
which may each be below the minimum quantity of
2 cwt., the whole may be sent as one consignment,
carried as Class A.
