The Dunedin Subdivision.
Comprising all that area in the Provincial District
of Otago the boundaries whereof commence at a
branch of Deep Dell Creek. Bounded towards the
North-east by Shag Valley Road and Shag River to
mouth of said river; thence towards the South and
East by Pacific Ocean, Blueskin Bay, and Swampy
Hill, to Water of Leith and City of Dunedin, and
Otago Harbour to Bay View Road, thence by a
straight line to the Ocean Beach, thence again by the
ocean to mouth of Clutha River, Matau Branch;
thence South-west by said Matau Branch and Clutha
River to junction of Waitahuna River, thence by
Waitahuna River to Waitahuna Hill, thence by a
line from Waitahuna Hill to the Nenthorn, thence
by the Nenthorn to branch of Deep Dell Creek, Shag
Valley Road, being the starting point.

The Port Chalmers Subdivision.
Comprising all that area in the Provincial District
of Otago the boundaries whereof commence from a
point at Blueskin Bay. Bounded on the North,
East, and South by the ocean to a point on Ocean
Beach, thence by a straight line to Bay View Road,
thence by Dunedin Subdivision boundary to start-
ing point at Blueskin Bay.

The Tapanui Subdivision.
Comprising all that area in the Provincial District
of Otago the boundaries whereof commence at mouth
of Clutha River. Bounded on South-east by the
Pacific Ocean to mouth of the Mataura River, thence
by said river to road line at Allen's Creek, thence by
said main road to Wakatipu Lake; thence on the
North by a straight line to the Obelisk, thence by
the watershed of Umbrella Mountains and Clutha
River to Mount Benger, thence by a line from
Mount Benger to the Clutha River, being southern
boundary of Run 369; thence South by Clutha River
to Benger Burn, thence by a line in a north-easterly
direction, being boundary of Run 199, to the Lam-
merlaw Range; thence by Lammerlaw Range to the
Dunedin Subdivision boundary at Verter Burn,
thence by said district boundary to starting point at
mouth of Clutha River.

The Southland Subdivision.
Comprising all that area in the Provincial District
of Otago the boundaries whereof commence at mouth
of the Mataura River; thence North-east by said
river to Eyre Peak, thence by Thomson, Livingston,
and Earl Mountains to Mount Christina; thence on
the North-west by unoccupied country to the ocean,
thence by ocean to starting point; together with
Stewart and Ruapuke Islands.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl
of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of December, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-eight.

Boundaries of Hauraki Gold-Mining District
contracted.

NORMANBY, Governor.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the eighth section of "The Gold-
Mining Districts Act, 1873," it is, among
other things, enacted that it shall be lawful for the
Governor from time to time, by Proclamation in the
General Government Gazette, to enlarge, contract, or
otherwise alter the boundaries of gold-mining dis-
tricts constituted under the said Act:

And whereas it is, among other things, further
enacted by the one hundred and eighty-seventh sec-
tion of the said Act that every district constituted
under "The Gold-Mining Districts Act, 1871," shall
be deemed to be a district constituted under the now
reciting Act:

And whereas under the provisions of the said
"Gold-Mining Districts Act, 1871," a certain district
within the Province of Auckland has been proclaimed
a gold-mining district under that Act, and designated
by the name of "The Hauraki Gold-Mining Dis-
trict," and the boundaries of such district have from
time to time been enlarged under the authority of
the said Acts:

And whereas it is expedient to contract the
boundaries of the said district as at present con-
stituted:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of every
power and authority enabling me in this behalf, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the boundaries of
the said Hauraki Gold-Mining District are hereby
contracted and otherwise altered so as to exclude
therefrom the land mentioned and described in the
Schedule hereto, save and except so much of the land
so described as is comprised within the claims held
by the Titania, Hero, New North Devon, and Bendigo
United Gold-Mining Companies, whose rights are in
no way affected by this Proclamation, and also ex-
cepting any other portion of the said land now
lawfully occupied for mining purposes.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land situate in the Hauraki Gold-
Mining District, commencing at a point on the
Karaka Creek, bearing 170° (325 links) from its
junction with the Alabama Creek; thence by a line
bearing 293° 25' (15470 links) to the junction of the
Tararu and Missouri Creeks; thence northerly by
the Tararu Creek to a point on said creek situated
198° 14′ (1275 links) from its junction with the Ohio
Creek; thence by a line bearing 113° 25′ (14465
links) to the Karaka Creek, being a point 40° 20'
(270 links) from its junction with the Lucky Hit
Creek; thence southerly by the Karaka Creek to
point of commencement—all bearings being mag-
netic. Subject always to the exceptions mentioned
in the above Proclamation, and the claims and rights
therein referred to.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
