THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

And whereas at the time of the commencement of
the said Act there was constituted a gold field known
as the "Nelson South-West Gold Field," and such
gold field is, by the provisions of the said "Mines
Act, 1877," to be deemed a mining district under
that Act:

And whereas the land described in the Schedule
hereto is within such mining district, and it is ex-
pedient to exempt the same from occupation for
mining purposes, or for water-races, dams, or reser-
voirs, or for machine, business, or residence sites:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in me by "The Mines
Act, 1877," do proclaim and declare that the land
described in the Schedule hereto is hereby exempted
from occupation for mining purposes, or for water-
races, dams, or reservoirs, or for machine, business,
or residence sites.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land situate in the Provincial
District of Nelson, bounded towards the North by
the Ngakawau River; towards the East by a line
parallel to and three miles distant from the railway
from Westport to Ngakawau; towards the South by
land exempted from mining by Proclamation dated
the 18th June, 1878; and towards the West by the
railway aforesaid from the Waimangaroa River to its
termination near Ngakawau River, and thence by a
line due north to the said Ngakawau River.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this twenty-third day of De-
cember, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-
eight.

Mount Hutt severed from South Rakaia Road
District.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS a majority of the ratepayers of that
portion of the South Rakaia Road District
described hereunder have, pursuant to the seventh
section of the Ordinance of the Province of Canter-
bury intituled "The Canterbury Roads Ordinance,
1872," petitioned His Excellency the Governor that
such portion should be severed from the aforesaid
district, and formed into a separate road district:

And whereas the County Council of the Ashburton
County have, by resolution, pursuant to the second
section of "The Canterbury Roads Ordinance
Amendment Act, 1877," recommended the prayer
of the said petition:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in exercise of the powers and autho-
rities vested in me by the said Ordinance and Act,
and by "The Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875," do
hereby proclaim and declare that the portion of the
aforesaid South Rakaia Road District described
hereunder is severed from the aforesaid district, and
is hereby constituted a separate district under the
said Ordinance by the name of "The Mount Hutt
District," and I do hereby appoint the twenty-ninth
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-nine, for the first election of members of
the said district.

SCHEDULE.

COMMENCING at a point on the south-west side of
the River Rakaia, the same being in line with the
south-eastern boundary of Section 7305; thence
north-westerly, following up the said river to its
confluence with Cascade Glen; thence south-westerly,
following up Cascade Glen, the western branch
thereof, and the south-eastern boundary of Run 460,
Class 3, to the north branch of the River Ashburton;
thence south-easterly, following down the said river
to the south-west corner of Run 698, Class 3; thence
easterly, following the southern boundary thereof to
the south-west boundary of Run 701, Class 3; thence
south-easterly, following the south-east boundaries
of Runs 701, Class 3, and 199, Class 3, to the southern-
most corner of the latter run; thence north-easterly
along the south-east boundary thereof to the western-
most corner of Run 739, Class 3; thence south-
easterly, following the south-west boundaries of said
Run 739, Class 3, to the point of its intersection by
the line of road leading from the Rakaia to the Ash-
burton by Anthony Thompson's; thence easterly,
following that road to its junction with the road
forming the south-east boundary of Section 27070;
thence north-easterly, following the latter road to its
junction with the road north-east of Section 23437;
thence north-westerly along the last-mentioned road
to its junction with the road separating Sections
15597 and 17969; and from thence returning north-
easterly along the same, and a line in continuation
of the south-east boundary of Section 7305 to the
commencing point.
