tuki River to the new channel of the Waipawa River; thence down the centre of that river to the Tamumu
Road, following in a westerly direction along the
centre of that road to its junction with the Patangata
Road; thence in a straight line in a north-westerly
direction to the north-eastern corner of Block No.
14 of the Patangata District, following along the
northern boundary of that block to its north-west
corner, and a line in continuation of the said northern
boundary to the centre of the main road leading from
Waipawa to Te Aute; thence northerly along the
centre of that road to the road from Patangata to Te
Aute; thence towards the North by the Hawke's Bay
County to the sea-coast; and towards the East by the
sea-coast to the mouth of the Mangakuri Stream;
thence up that stream to the south-eastern boundary
of Block 75 of the Mangakuri District, thence along
the south-eastern boundary of that block, and the
south-eastern and southern boundaries of Block 76,
to the Mangarara Stream, following down that stream
to its mouth, the starting point. 2nd. Of the Wai-
pawa Riding: Towards the North by the Hawke's
Bay County; towards the East by the Patangata
Riding; towards the South by the centre of the
Waipawa River to the junction of the north and
south branches of that river, thence up the centre
of the northern branch of the Waipawa River to its
junction with the Makarora River at the southern
boundary of the Hawke's Bay County.

SCHEDULE.

Commencing on the eastern side of the Te Aute
Road, at the north-west corner of Block No. 14,
Tatangata District, following along the northern
boundary of that block to its north-eastern corner;
thence in a straight line in a south-easterly direction
to the junction of the Tamumu Road with the Pata-
ngata Road, thence in an easterly direction along the
centre of the Tamumu Road to the new channel of
the Waipawa River, following up the centre of that
river to a point opposite the south-east corner of
Block No. 46; thence in a straight line to the said
corner, thence following along the eastern boundary
of Blocks 46 and 47, and the northern boundary of
Block 47, to the middle of the Main Road leading
from Waipawa to Te Aute, and thence along the
middle of that road in a northerly direction to a
point opposite the north-west corner of Block No.
14, and in a straight line from that point to the said
corner at the commencing point.

  1. That the Norsewood and Woodville Ridings
    remain as at present constituted.

  2. That the number of members of the Council be
    nine, one member being allotted to each riding. 683

ROADS PROCLAIMED COUNTY ROADS, COUNTY OF
WAIPAWA.

Waipawa County Council Office,
Waipawa, 6th September, 1878.

I HEREBY proclaim, in accordance with section
88 of "The Public Works Act, 1876," the fol-
lowing roads to be County Roads:β€”

  1. The main road now used from Te Aute to the
    southern boundary of the Waipukurau Riding. The
    said road commencing at the line dividing the Coun-
    ties of Waipawa and Hawke's Bay on the boundary
    of the College lands at Te Aute, and running 161585
    links, or thereabouts, in a southerly direction to the
    northern boundary of Block IX. of the Motuoturaia
    Rural Sections.

  2. The road now in use from Kaikora to Tamumu,
    vid Homewood Bridge. The said road commencing
    at Kaikora on the main road above described (as No.
    1), and running 16350 links in a south-easterly direc-
    tion; thence 6300 links towards the north-east,
    thence 25130 links southerly and 12125 links in a
    south-easterly direction, thence 700 links north-
    easterly, and 860 links towards the south-east, ter-
    minating on the proper left bank of the Tukituki
    River; the total linkage being 61465.

  3. The road from near the Waipawa Railway
    Station to Tamumu, vid Evison's Homestead. Start-
    ing from the main road (described before as No. 1),
    and running 27210 links south-easterly, and then
    15200 links north-easterly, there joining the road
    before described as No. 2. The total linkage being

    to Patangata. Starting from near the abutment of
    the said bridge on the proper right bank of the river,
    and going easterly 1100 links, thence northerly 3750
    links, thence to the north-east 10400 links, whence
    the road runs easterly 10050 links, thence 12750
    links to the south-east, thence 32170 links south-
    westerly, terminating on the road (described as No.
    2); the total linkage being 40350.

  5. That portion of the road now in use from Wai-
    pawa Township towards Hampden. Starting at the
    main road (before described as No. 1) and running
    westerly 18600 links, thence northerly 8750 links,
    thence 13000 links north-westerly to the left bank of
    the Mangaonuku Stream; the total linkage being

  6. The road from Onga Onga to Waipukurau, vid
    Waipukurau Gorge. Starting on the road from
    Forty-Mile Bush to Hampden, at a point 54 chains,
    or thereabouts, south of the Onga Onga Creek, and
    running south-easterly 20789 links to cross-road at
    Fairfield Station; thence 64728 links through Wai-
    pukurau Gorge to the Waipukurau Village, where it
    joins the main road (before described as No. 1).

  7. The road from Waipukurau to Tamumu as sur-
    veyed, and taken under the authority of the late
    Provincial Government of Hawke's Bay. Commenc-
    ing at the Village of Waipukurau on the main road
    (before described as No. 1), and running in a north-
    easterly direction 6836 links; thence south-easterly
    560 links, thence 25624 links in a north-easterly
    direction, thence 13230 links south-easterly, thence
    22072 links in a north-easterly direction, when the
    road joins that (described as No. 2) opposite the
    junction of the latter with the road (described as
    No. 4).

IN THE MATTER OF THE WAIMATE RAILWAY
COMPANY (LIMITED), AND "THE DISTRICT RAIL-
WAYS ACT, 1877."

NOTICE is hereby given that the Waimate Rail-
way Company (Limited) propose to construct
a railway under the provisions of the above-mentioned
Act, from the Waimate Branch Railway at Waimate,
in the Provincial District of Canterbury, to a ter-
minus in Section No. 18844, near Pudding Hill, in
the provincial district aforesaid, and that the said
Company have, pursuant to the provisions of the
said Act, deposited at the places undermentioned (1)
a plan on which is set forth the middle line and
direction of the said proposed railway; and (2) a
book of reference describing the same, showing the
lands required to be taken for the said proposed
railway, and the names of the owners and occupiers
of such lands, so far as they can be ascertained.

The places at which such plan and book of re-
ference have been deposited as aforesaid are the
Waimate County Council Offices, Canterbury, and
the Public Works Office, Dunedin.

The plan and book of reference are there open for
public inspection without any fee.
