HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
appoint
JOSEPH GILES, Esq., J.P.,
to be a Resident Magistrate for the District of
Hokitika, a Warden of all Wardens' Courts under
"The Mines Act, 1877," a Coroner for the colony,
and Chairman of the Licensing Courts for the
Districts of Town of Hokitika and Kanieri. These
appointments date from the 1st proximo.

Revocation of Appointment of Bonding Warehouse.
CUSTOMS. In exercise of the authority in me
for this purpose vested, I, John Ballance, the
Commissioner of Customs, do by this order under
my hand revoke and annul the appointment of the
under-mentioned building as a Warehouse for the
reception and security of goods entered to be ware-
housed without payment of duty upon the first entry
thereof, viz.,—
Port of Invercargill.
A wooden building, situate on Section 20, Block I.,
Dee Street, and known as
MCPHERSON'S BOND.
Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of January, one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-eight.

Approving and Appointing Bonding Warehouses.
CUSTOMS. In exercise of the powers in me for
this purpose vested by "The Customs Regu-
lation Act, 1858," I, the Commissioner of Customs,
do hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned
Warehouses, viz.,—
Port of Auckland.
The cellar portion of a brick building, with stone
foundation and slated roof, situate on part of Allot-
ment 5, Section 2, of Town of Auckland, and known
as
EDWARD LEWIS' BOND.
Port of Napier.
A wooden building with corrugated iron roof,
Opening into a lane off the main street, situate on
part of Section 515, Customhouse Street, Napier,
and known as
ROUTLEDGE'S BOND.
Port of Invercargill.
The basement floor of a brick building, situate on
Section 7, Block LXXV., fronting Tay Street, and
having a back entrance to Wood Street, and known
as
MCPHERSON'S BOND,
—to be Warehouses for the reception of goods under
bond.
Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of January, one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-eight.

Appointment of Examination Shed at Hokitika.
CUSTOMS. In exercise of the powers in me for
this purpose vested by "The Customs Regu-
lation Act Amendment Act, 1868, I, the Com-
missioner of Customs, do hereby approve and ap-
point the under-mentioned Warehouse, viz.,—
Port of Hokitika.
A wooden and galvanized iron building, situate on
Gibson's Quay Wharf, and belonging to the Hokitika
Harbour Board, to be a Warehouse where goods
may be deposited for examination on the landing
thereof.
Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of January, one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-eight.

Gold Mining Leases to be granted.
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.
IN conformity with the 37th section of "The
Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations
made under that Act for the granting of leases for
gold mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is
intended to grant leases for gold mining purposes of
Crown lands to the applicants specified in the annexed
Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against
such leases.
Objections to granting such leases, stating the
grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and
lodged with the Warden, at Reefton, on or before
the 5th day of February, 1878.
Copies of the applications made and plans annexed
may be seen at the Warden's Office, at Reefton.
SCHEDULE.
ROBERT EVANS GULLINE. Style under which it is
intended to conduct the business: "The Formosa
Quartz Mining Company (Limited)." 16½ acres, in
the Nelson South-West Gold Mining District.
J. K. Clark. Style under which it is intended to
conduct the business: "The United Miners' Gold
Mining Company." 16½ acres, in the Nelson South-
West Gold Mining District.
Alexander McKenzie. Style under which it is in-
tended to conduct the business: "The Lady of the
Lake Quartz Mining Company." 16½ acres, in the
Nelson South-West Gold Mining District.
Louis Davies. Style under which it is intended to
conduct the business: "The Sebastopol Gold Mining
Company." 16½ acres, in the Nelson South-West
Gold Mining District.
Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of January, one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-eight.
