of passengers, who shall neglect to have painted, in
letters not less than one inch in size on the inside or
outside of the door, or on some other conspicuous
place of such vehicle as the Board may determine,
the name and residence of the owner, the registered
number of his license, and the number of passengers
for which it is licensed, shall be liable to a penalty
not exceeding five pounds.

If the owner of any omnibus, cab, car, &c., permits
same to be used without first having a license in
force as aforesaid in respect of such omnibus, &c., or
without having the name and number painted in the
manner herein directed, or if any person be found
standing, driving, or plying for hire within the pre-
scribed space, every such person shall be liable to a
penalty not exceeding ten pounds.

That any driver of any vehicle, licensed as aforesaid,
galloping his horses or racing with any other vehicle,
shall, on conviction, be liable to a penalty not ex-
ceeding five pounds.

The driver of any vehicle waiting for hire using as
a stand any other place than those appointed by the
District Board, or demanding higher rates than those
authorized, shall, on conviction, be liable to pay a
penalty not exceeding five pounds.

That each driver, on arriving with his vehicle at the
shore end of the wharf, must either proceed on his
journey without stopping, or turn down the road
looking eastward, standing on the side of the roadway
twenty-five feet from the wharf end, placing his
vehicle in a line; the next driver, on arriving, to place
his vehicle immediately behind the first, and the third
behind the second, and so on. Neglect on the part of
any driver to comply as aforesaid shall, on conviction,
be liable to a penalty not exceeding ten pounds.

That all wagons, drays, &c., passing through any
part of the proclaimed district shall have, in addition
to the name and residence of the owner, the regis-
tered number of his license, to be obtained from the
Board, painted in legible and permanent characters
on the right-hand side of his wagon, dray, &c. Neglect
on the part of the owner or driver to comply as afore-
said, he shall, on conviction, be liable to a penalty
not exceeding five pounds.

That an Inspector of licensed vehicles shall be
appointed by the District Board, whose duty it will
be to enforce these regulations and by-laws.

That all penalties shall be recoverable in a summary
way.

And, further, in pursuance of the powers vested in
us under and by authority of "The Auckland Muni-
cipal Police Act, 1866," we, being the local authority
for the time being, do hereby proclaim as follows:

That ten feet on each side of the main road, com-
mencing at the bridge near the Bridge Hotel, to
Ring's Bridge, Upper Township, and from the banks
along the Tiki Road to the boundary of the Tiki
Highway District, shall be a footway within the
meaning of the said Act.

Adopted and signed by us, as Members of the
District Board, at a meeting held this
twenty-fourth day of October, one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-
seven.

Importation of Grape Vines into Queensland prohibited.

THE following Proclamation prohibiting the intro-
duction or importation into Queensland from
Victoria, and from all other places whatsoever, of
any grape vines or grape-vine cuttings, is published
for general information.

and Commander-in-Chief of the
Colony of Queensland and its
Dependencies.

WHEREAS by an Act passed in the forty-first year of
her present Majesty's reign intituled "The Grape
Vines Disease Act," it is, among other things,
enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor from
time to time, with the advice of the Executive
Council, by Proclamation, to prohibit the introduc-
tion or importation into Queensland of grape vines
or grape-vine cuttings: And whereas the grape vine
disease known as Phylloxera vastatrix is found to
exist in the Colony of Victoria: And whereas it is
deemed expedient and necessary to prohibit the
importation into Queensland of grape vines and
grape-vine cuttings: Now, therefore, I, Sir Arthur
Edward Kennedy, the Governor aforesaid, by virtue
of the power and authority vested in me by the
hereinbefore recited Act, and of all other powers
enabling me in that behalf, and by and with the
advice of the Executive Council aforesaid, do, by this
my Proclamation, absolutely prohibit the introduc-
tion or importation into Queensland from the said
Colony of Victoria, and from all other places what-
soever, of any grape vines or grape-vine cuttings
until this my Proclamation shall be revoked.

Given under my hand and Seal, at Govern-
ment House, Brisbane, this twentieth
day of December, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-seven, and in the forty-first year
of Her Majesty's reign.

the Mayor of Timaru is published for general
information, in accordance with section 145 of "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

NOTICE is hereby given that the Timaru Borough
Council caused to be duly published within the
Borough of Timaru a notice, "That in order to com-
plete the Waterworks for the Borough of Timaru the
sum of forty thousand pounds sterling be borrowed
for the purpose. The works so constructed, an
annual recurring rate of one shilling in the pound to
provide for interest, and the water rate chargeable in
accordance with the provisions of 'The Municipal
