Act, 1876," and such petition was, on the thirtieth
day of August, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-seven, publicly notified, and no petition from
an equal or greater number of such ratepayers was
presented to His Excellency within two months
after such public notification praying him not to
assent to the prayer of such first-mentioned petition:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
exercise and pursuance of all powers and authorities
enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby proclaim
and declare that, from the thirty-first day of October,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven, the
said Town of Queenstown shall be a borough consti-
tuted under the said "Municipal Corporations Act,
1876," and shall be called the Borough of Queens-
town; and that the boundaries of such borough shall
be those specified in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Provincial District of Otago, con-
taining by admeasurement two hundred and seventy
(270) acres, more or less, bounded towards the North-
west by Crown lands, three thousand one hundred
and thirty (3130) links; by Cemetery Reserve, two
thousand one hundred and ten (2110) links, also
by Crown lands, one thousand nine hundred and
thirty (1930) links; towards the North-east by
Crown lands, four thousand nine hundred and
twenty (4920) links; towards the South-east by
Crown lands, one thousand seven hundred (1700)
links; towards the South by Lake Wakatipu, fifteen
thousand (15000) links, be the same more or less;
and towards the South-west by Crown lands, one
thousand one hundred (1100) links.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl
of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
thirty-first day of October, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-seven.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

Lands given in Exchange for Road on West Side of
Sections 11161 and 10339, in the Rakaia Road
Board District, County of Selwyn.

A MEMORIAL laid before His Excellency the
Governor, by the Minister for Public Works,
pursuant to the provisions of "The Public Works
Act, 1876," containing an accurate description of the
lands on north side of Section 11161, near the
Hororata River, proposed to be given to the Hon.
John Hall, of Christchurch, in exchange for road on
west side of Sections 11161 and 10339, in the Rakaia
Road Board District, County of Selwyn.

All that piece or parcel of land containing by ad-
measurement 3 acres 3 roods 28 perches, more or
less, forming a road on the north side of Section
No. 11161, in the Rakaia Road Board District,
County Selwyn, Provincial District of Canterbury.
Commencing at a point on the north-east corner of
said Section No. 11161, and following northern
boundary of said section in a westerly direction for
a distance of 2067 links, 1810 links, and 49 links, or
thereabouts respectively; thence in a northerly
direction for a distance of 105 links or thereabouts;
thence following southern boundary of Sections
10897 and 11217 for a distance of 63.4 links, 1800
links, and 2063 links, or thereabouts respectively;
thence in a southerly direction 100.4 links or there-
abouts respectively to the commencing point; the
above particulars being delineated on, a plan marked
P.W.D. 5779, hereto attached.

I, the undersigned, William James Mudie Larnach,
the Minister for Public Works, hereby certify that
the above-written memorial is true and correct in
the several particulars thereof.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Public Works Act, 1876,"
it is enacted that the Road Board may agree
with the owners of any land required for a road to
be made in lieu of a road to be stopped, as therein
provided, to exchange the whole or any part of the
land occupied by such last-mentioned road for the
whole or any part of the lands so required; and
upon the presentation of the memorial mentioned in
the twenty-ninth section, the Governor may issue to
such owner a Crown grant of the land so agreed to
be given in exchange:

And whereas the Road Board has agreed with the
owner of the land described in the above-written
memorial to give the said land in exchange for a
road on west side of Sections eleven thousand one
hundred and sixty-one and ten thousand three hun-
dred and thirty-nine, in the Rakaia Road Board
District, County of Selwyn:

And whereas all the requirements and conditions
prescribed by the said Act, prior to the stoppage of
such road, have been duly performed and fulfilled:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of New Zealand, in
exercise and pursuance of the power and authority in
me vested by the said Act, and of any other power
and authority enabling me in that behalf, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the lands described in the
memorial above written, and shown on the plan
thereto attached, are hereby given in exchange for a
road on west side of Sections eleven thousand one
hundred and sixty-one and ten thousand three hun-
dred and thirty-nine, in the Rakaia Road Board
District aforesaid.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
