the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-third day of
September, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
one, page five hundred and twenty-eight.

License to practise Anatomy.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-third day of October, 1877.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by the fourth section of "The Ana-
tomy Act, 1875" (hereinafter called the said
Act), it is, amongst other things, enacted that it shall
be lawful for the Governor in Council to grant a
license to practise anatomy to any legally-qualified
medical practitioner who shall be engaged at a School
of Anatomy, established under the said Act, as a
teacher of medicine in such school, on application
from any such person for such purpose, counter-
signed by two Justices of the Peace acting for the
district at or nearest which such person resides,
certifying to their knowledge or belief that such
person so applying is about to carry on the practice
of anatomy; and it is enacted that every such license
shall state the school at which it shall be lawful for
the licensee to practice anatomy: And whereas
there has been established a School of Anatomy at
Dunedin in connection with the University of Otago:
And whereas John Halliday Scott, a legally-qualified
medical practitioner, engaged at the said School of
Anatomy at Dunedin, has made application for a
license to practise anatomy, and has complied with
the provisions of the above recited section of the said
Act:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the colony,
in exercise and in pursuance of the powers and au-
thorities vested in him by the said Act, doth hereby
license and authorize
JOHN HALLIDAY SCOTT, M.D., Edin., M.R.C.S.E.,
to practise anatomy at the School of Anatomy in
connection with the University of Otago.

Auckland Harbour Board By-law approved.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-third day of October, 1877.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the Auckland Harbour Board, acting
under delegated powers, has made the by-law
contained at the foot hereof; and it is expedient to
approve of the same: Now, therefore, in pursuance
and exercise of all powers and authorities vested
in me by "The Marine Act, 1867," and "The
Harbour Boards Act, 1870," or either of them, I
George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby,
the Governor of New Zealand, do hereby, with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
colony, approve of the following by-law made by the
Auckland Harbour Board.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers and autho-
rities vested in the Auckland Harbour Board the
said Board do hereby make the following by-law:β
- This by-law shall come into operation and take
effect on and after the 1st day of November, 1877. - It shall not be lawful for any person to moor,
anchor, or leave or suffer to remain in any part of
the Port of Auckland, any timber, except in such
places as may be from time to time set apart by the
Auckland Harbour Board for such purpose. - The word "timber" in this by-law shall include
and mean any raft of sawn timber, round or square
piles, spars, balk timber, and any other floating article
not propelled by sails, oars, or steam. - It shall not be lawful for any person to moor
or anchor any boat or vessel in any of the places set
apart for mooring such timber as aforesaid. - For the present purpose of this by-law, and
subject to such alteration as the Harbour Board may
hereafter make, the said Board hereby set apart as
places for mooring timber all that portion of Free-
man's Bay westward of a line drawn from the Block-
house to Acheron Point up to a distance of one
chain's length from the shore or high watermark;
all that portion of Mechanics' Bay intake westward
of a line drawn from a white post on the sea-wall to
another white post on the railway embankment up to
a distance of half a chain's length from the shore or
high watermark; all that portion of the foreshore
on the North Shore of Auckland Harbour within a
line drawn due south from the old Magazine site to
the Sandspit, and thence due west to DepΓ΄t Point. - All timber brought into the Port of Auckland
shall, within twelve hours after arrival, unless pre-
vented by stress of weather, be branded or marked
in a legible and distinctive manner, so that the owner
or person responsible for its care may be known, and
shall be moored in the places aforesaid, or such other
places as may be substituted therefor. - Any person offending against any or either of
the provisions of this by-law, or failing or neglecting
to comply with the provisions hereof, shall be liable
to a penalty not exceeding five pounds, in addition to
any sum of money, costs and charges, and rent which
may be incurred under this by-law. - It shall be lawful for the Harbourmaster, or any
person acting under his authority, to take charge of,
and thereafter moor in any of the places provided
for keeping timber, any timber not in actual transit
which may be found in such prohibited part of the
Port of Auckland, and retain and keep the same until
all costs and charges incurred in relation thereto
shall be paid. - It shall not be lawful for any person to remove
any timber so taken charge of and impounded until
all charges upon the same are fully paid. - It shall be lawful for the Harbourmaster, in
addition to any sum of money which he may have
paid or expenses which he may have been put to for
taking charge of and mooring such timber, or which
may be a reasonable charge if done by his own boat's
crew, to demand and receive the sum of threepence
per week for every fractional part of such timber as
may have been taken charge of as aforesaid, and the
said Harbourmaster shall duly account to the said
Board for all moneys so coming into his hands.
