Regulations for Trout Fishing in Otago.

NORMANBY, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested
in him by "The Salmon and Trout Act, 1867,"
His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand doth hereby make the following regulations
for the Provincial District of Otago :β€”

REGULATIONS.

  1. These regulations shall come into force on the
    first day of October, one thousand eight hundred
    and seventy-seven.

  2. Any holder of a license, as hereinafter men-
    tioned, may fish with rod and line for brown trout
    in the following rivers, creeks, and streams:β€”Kaka-
    nui River, Island Stream, Shag River, Waikouaiti
    River, Waitati River, Silver Stream, Fulton's Creek,
    Boat Harbour Creek, Lee Stream, Deep Stream,
    Taieri River, Puerua River, Kaihiku River, Waiwera
    River, and Kuriwao River, from the first day of
    October next until the thirty-first day of March,
    one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight;
    and in the Water of Leith from the first day of
    November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
    seven, until the thirty-first day of January, one
    thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight.

  3. Licenses to fish with rod and line in the said
    waters will be issued under the hand of the Secre-
    tary of any Acclimatization Society in the said pro-
    vincial district, and for every license a fee of twenty
    shillings will be charged.

  4. No license shall authorize any person other
    than the person named therein to fish, and that only
    with rod and line.

  5. Any person fishing without a license, or any
    person who shall on demand of any person holding
    and showing a license, or on the demand of any
    police officer or constable, fail to produce and show
    to such person, police officer, or constable his license,
    shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty
    pounds.

  6. All trout not exceeding seven inches in length
    taken by any person fishing as aforesaid shall be
    immediately returned alive to the said river, and any
    person convicted of infringing this regulation shall
    be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds
    sterling, and his license shall thereupon become void.

  7. Except as aforesaid, no person shall fish or use
    any net or other engine, instrument, or device for
    taking fish in any river or stream within the Provin-
    cial District of Otago, and all persons offending
    against this regulation shall be liable to a penalty
    not exceeding fifty pounds.

  8. Any person who puts, throws, or places, or
    allows to be put, thrown, or placed into any river or
    stream in the said Provincial District of Otago, any
    dynamite or other explosive substance, or any matter
    or liquid deleterious to fish, shall be liable to a
    penalty not exceeding one hundred pounds.

Governor, this twenty-ninth day of Sep-
tember, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-seven.

Meeting of Ratepayers of the Titirangi Highway
District convened, to select Members of District
Board.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested
in me by "The Auckland Highways Act, 1874,"
and "The Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875," I,
George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby,
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby

convene a meeting of ratepayers of the Titirangi
Highway District, to be held at the schoolhouse,
Titirangi, at the hour of noon on Saturday, the twenty-
seventh day of October next, for the purpose of
selecting five qualified persons, and requesting the
Governor to appoint such persons a District Board
for the said district for the ensuing year, pursuant
to the powers vested in the Governor by the seventy-
second section of the said "Auckland Highways Act,
1874."

As witness the hand of His Excellency the
Governor, this fourth day of October,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
seven.

Time when Oysters are not to be taken for Sale.

THE following Proclamation, relating to time when
oysters are not to be taken for sale in the
Provincial District of Auckland, is re-published for
general information.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Oyster Fisheries Act Amend-
ment Act, 1874," it is enacted that the Governor may
from time to time, by Proclamation in the New Zea-
land Gazette, declare that, within such district of the
colony as shall therein be described, and during such
consecutive months as shall therein be named, not
exceeding four, it shall not be lawful to take or catch
for sale any rock oysters, whether between high and
low watermarks or not; and if any person shall
within such district, and during such months as shall
be named in any such Proclamation, take or catch for
sale, or sell or expose for sale, or buy, any such rock
oysters, he shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding
twenty pounds for any one offence, to be recovered
in a summary way before any one or more Justice or
Justices of the Peace; and further, that the Governor
may from time to time revoke or alter any such Pro-
clamation:

And whereas by Proclamation made under the said
Act bearing date the twenty-first day of December,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four, and
published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-
fourth day of December, one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-four, it was proclaimed and declared that
during the consecutive months commencing on the
first day of January in each year, and ending on the
thirty-first day of March in each year, it shall not be
lawful to take or catch for sale any rock oysters as
in the said Proclamation mentioned:

And whereas it is expedient to revoke the said
Proclamation, and to make another Proclamation in
lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
power and authority vested in me under the said Act,
do hereby revoke the said in part recited Proclama-
tion, and in lieu thereof do hereby proclaim and
declare that during the four consecutive months com-
mencing on the first day of December in each year,
and ending on the thirty-first day of March in each
year, it shall not be lawful to take or catch for sale
any rock oysters, whether between high and low
watermarks or not, within the district comprised
within the Province of Auckland, the boundaries of
which are set forth in the Schedule hereto.
