Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
twentieth day of January, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-seven.

Warrant appointing certain persons to preside at the
Polling in the various Wards at the first Election
of Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors for the Incor-
porated Town of South Invercargill.
NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREAS the Town of South Invercargill has
been incorporated under the provisions of
"The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance,
1865:" And whereas by the one hundred and
thirteenth section of the said Ordinance it is enacted
that where no special provision is made for the con-
duct of the first election under the said Ordinance, it
shall be lawful for the Superintendent, by warrant
under his hand, to appoint such and so many persons
as may be necessary to perform any of the acts in
the said Ordinance required to be done by the Mayor,
Councillors, and Town Clerk before such officers can
be elected under the provisions of the said Ordi-
nance: And whereas by section seven of "The
Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875," it is, among other
things, enacted that all powers, duties, and functions
which immediately before the date of the abolition
of any province under the said Act were vested in
the Superintendent of such abolished province should,
on the date of the abolition of such province, and
for the purposes of the district included within such
abolished province, vest in and be exercised and per-
formed by the Governor:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of all
powers and authorities vested in me in that behalf, do
hereby appoint the persons hereinafter mentioned to
be the persons before whom shall be held (within
the respective wards of the Incorporated Town of
South Invercargill set opposite their names) the
polling at the elections under the said Ordinance of
Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors for the said in-
corporated town, and to do within the said respective
wards set opposite their names, at such first elections
all such acts as by the said Ordinance, are required
