Appointing day for Election of Mayor of South
Invercargill.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Otago Municipal Corpora-
tions Ordinance 1865 Amendment Ordinance,
1870," it is, amongst other things, provided that it
shall be lawful for the Superintendent, at any time
after any municipality shall have been proclaimed
under the provisions of the Ordinance intituled
"An Ordinance to amend 'The Otago Municipal
Corporations Ordinance, 1865,'" by Proclamation in
the Government Gazette of the Province of Otago,
to appoint a day for the first election of a citizen to
be Mayor of such municipality: And whereas by
section seven of "The Abolition of Provinces Act,
1875," it is, among other things, enacted that all
powers, duties, and functions which immediately
before the date of the abolition of any province
under the said Act were vested in the Superintendent
of such abolished province should, on the date of the
abolition of such province, and for purposes of
the district included within such abolished province,
vest in and be exercised and performed by the
Governor:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of all
powers and authorities vested in me in that behalf, do
hereby proclaim and declare that I have appointed,
and do hereby appoint Monday, the twelfth day of
February, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
seven, as and to be the day for the first election
of a citizen to be Mayor of the Incorporated Town
of South Invercargill.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New

Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same;
and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this twentieth day of Janu-
ary, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-
seven.

Warrant appointing a Presiding Officer at first Election
of Mayor, &c., South Invercargill.

NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREAS the Town of South Invercargill has
been incorporated under the provisions of
"The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordinance,
1865:" And whereas by the one hundred and
thirteenth section of the said Ordinance, it is, amongst
other things, enacted that where no special provision
is made for the conduct of the first elections under
the said Ordinance, it shall be lawful for the Super-
intendent, by warrant under his hand, to appoint
some fit and proper person to preside at each of such
elections: And whereas by section seven of "The
Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875," it is, among other
things, enacted that all powers, duties, and functions
which immediately before the date of the abolition
of any province under the said Act were vested in
the Superintendent of such abolished province should,
on the date of the abolition of such province, and
for the purposes of the district included within such
abolished province, vest in and be exercised and per-
formed by the Governor:
