THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
Otago Roads Ordinance, 1871," it is enacted that if
a majority in number of the persons on the roll or
rolls for the time being in force under "The
Registration of Electors Act, 1866," or any other
Act for the like purpose, should sign and cause to be
presented to the Superintendent a petition in the
form in the Second Schedule to the said Ordinance,
or to the like effect, praying him to constitute the
portion of the province in which such persons should
reside a road district under the said Ordinance, and
in such petition should set forth the boundaries of
the portion of the province to which such petition
should refer, it should be lawful for the Superin-
tendent, if he should think fit so to do, by procla-
mation to constitute such portion of the province
a road district by such name as in and by the
proclamation should be assigned to the same: And
whereas by virtue of "The Abolition of Provinces
Act, 1875," all the powers, duties, and functions
vested in, or to be exercised or performed by, the
Superintendent of the said late Province of Otago
under "The Otago Roads Ordinance, 1871," are now
vested in and may be exercised and performed by
the Governor: And whereas a majority in number
of the persons on the roll for the time being in force
under "The Registration of Electors Act, 1866,"
and the various acts of the General Assembly of
New Zealand amending the same, resident in that
portion of the late Province and now Provincial
District of Otago specified in the Schedule
hereunder written, have signed and caused to be
presented to me a petition in the form prescribed by
the said Ordinance, praying me to constitute the
said portion of the said provincial district described
in the said Schedule hereunder written a road
district under the said Ordinance:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in exercise of the powers conferred
upon me by the said Ordinance and the said Act,
and of all other powers and authorities enabling me
in this behalf, do hereby constitute and proclaim all
that portion of the Provincial District of Otago
described in the said Schedule hereunder written a
road district under the said "Otago Roads Ordi-
nance, 1871," by the name of "The Otaraia Road
District."
SCHEDULE.
DESCRIPTION OF BOUNDARIES OF OTARAIA
ROAD DISTRICT.
BOUNDED on the North by Chatton and Glenkenich
Survey Districts; towards the East by the Clutha
County to a point due east of the south-eastern
corner of Tuturau Survey District; on the South by
a line through Slopedown Survey District to and
along Wyndham Survey District; and towards the
West by Tuturau Road District and the Mataura
River.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, thi

ment Act, 1858."

A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in
me by "The Marriage Act Amendment Act,
1858," I, George Augustus Constantine, Marquis
of Normanby, the Governor of New Zealand, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the boundaries
of the Mongonui District, the Bay of Islands Dis-
trict, the Hokianga District, the Wangarei District,
and the Tokatoka District, as at present constituted
under the said Act, shall be and the same are hereby
altered; and do proclaim and declare that the terri-
tory therein comprised shall be divided anew into six
districts, the names and boundaries whereof shall be
as follow:-
MONGONUI.
BOUNDED on the South by the Takou Stream from
its mouth to the north-west boundary of King's
land, thence by the western boundary of King's
land and Katiaka Stream to the boundary of Shep-
herd's land, thence by the boundary between King's
and Shepherd's land to the north-eastern boundary
of Shepherd's land known as Upokorau, thence by
the boundary of Shepherd's land until it joins
the eastern boundary of Joyce's land, thence by the
eastern and southern boundaries of Joyce's land (in
which is included Mokau Block) to its junction with
the southern boundary of the Matawerohia Block,
thence by the western boundary of the Manginangina
Block to the Waipapa Stream, thence by that stream
to its junction with the Whakateterekia Stream,
thence by that stream to its source, thence by the
southern boundaries of the Maungataniwha East,
Maungataniwha West, and Maungataniwha Blocks to
the trigonometrical station on the summit of Raetea,
thence by a right line to the mouth of the Uwhiroa
River in the Harbour of Herekino; and on the West,
North, and East by the sea.
BAY OF ISLANDS.
Bounded on the North by the Mongonui District
hereinbefore described from the mouth of the Takou
River to the Waipapa Stream; thence by that stream
and the western boundaries of the Waitaroto and
Okaihau No. 2 Blocks to the Waiharakeke (or Uta-
kura) Stream; thence by the centre of that stream
to the eastern boundary of the Mangataraire Block;
thence by the eastern boundary of that block, and
by the eastern boundaries of the Pukewharariki,
Rakauwahi, and Punakiteri Blocks to the Punakitere
Stream; thence by that stream to where the Manga-
kohia Road crosses it; thence by that road to its
intersection with a line drawn from Trigonometrical
Stations 18 to 43; thence by that line to Trigono-
metrical Station 18, and a straight line from Station
18 to the south-west angle of the Hukerenui Block;
thence by a line from the said angle to Trigono-
metrical Station "G1;" thence by a line from Trigono-
metrical Station "G1" to the south-west angle of the
Kawakawa Block, and by the western and northern
boundaries of the Kawakawa Block to the Kawakawa
River; thence by the Kawakawa and Waikare Rivers
to the western boundary of Baker's grant, and by
that boundary; thence by a line from the south-west
angle of Baker's grant to the north boundary of the
