New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
power and authority vested in me by the said Act, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the district of
Gisborne shall be and the same is hereby constituted,
as from the twelfth day of May, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-seven, a borough under the said
Act; and that the name of such borough shall be
the Borough of Gisborne, and the boundaries of
such borough shall be those specified in the Schedule
hereto.

SCHEDULE.

COMMENCING at the junction of the Taruheru with
the Waimata River, thence along the Taruheru River
by a line parallel with the said river distant 200
links from its northernmost bank, on the Whataupoko
Block, to a point in a straight line with the eastern
boundary of Matawhero No. 5 Block; thence by a
straight line crossing the Taruheru River bearing 5º
26' magnetic-scaled distance 800 links to the willow
tree at the eastern boundary of Matawhero No. 5;
thence by the said boundary by lines bearing 5° 26'
magnetic 8869 links, and 168° 44' magnetic 398
links to the Waikanae River; thence crossing the said
river to the north-western boundary of the Wai-o-hi-a-
rore Block; thence by the said boundary between the
Wai-o-hi-a-rore and Awapuni Blocks by lines bear-

  • ing 321° 39′ magnetic 655 links, and 297° 20′ mag-
    netic 4622 links, to the sea-coast; thence by the
    coast line to the mouth of the Waimate River; thence
    crossing the said river, and extending for a distance
    of 200 links beyond the east bank of the said river
    on the Kaiti Block; thence by a line parallel with
    the Waimata River distant 200 chains from the east
    bank, to the junction of the Waimata and Taruheru
    Rivers; thence to the starting point.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
twelfth day of May, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-seven.

Town of Lawrence proclaimed a Borough under "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the fifteenth section of "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," it is
enacted that the Governor may, by Proclamation,
declare any of the several places specified in the
Third Schedule to the said Act in which a Municipal
Corporation has been established under the provi-
sions of an Ordinance of the Province of Otago,
intituled "The Otago Municipal Corporations Ordi-
nance, 1865," to be a borough constituted under the
said "Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," from a
day to be named in such Proclamation: subject,
however, to certain conditions in the said section
mentioned: And whereas the Town of Lawrence, in
the Provincial District of Otago, is one of the places
mentioned in the said Third Schedule, and a petition
has been presented to His Excellency the Governor
by one hundred and ninety of the ratepayers of such
town praying him to constitute such town into a
borough under the said "Municipal Corporations
Act, 1876," and such petition was on the thirtieth
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-seven, publicly notified, and no petition from
an equal or greater number of such ratepayers was
presented to His Excellency within two months after
such public notification praying him not to assent
to the prayer of such first-mentioned petition:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
exercise and pursuance of all powers and authori-
ties enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby
proclaim and declare that from the eleventh day of
May, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven,
the said Town of Lawrence shall be a Borough
constituted under the said "Municipal Corporations
Act, 1876," and shall be called the Borough of
Lawrence; and that the boundaries of such borough
shall be those specified in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of
Otago, in the Colony of New Zealand, containing by
admeasurement six hundred and six (606) acres,
more or less. Bounded towards the North by Block
numbered XIX., Tuapeka East District, seven thou-
sand four hundred and thirty-one (7431) links;
towards the East South-east by Block numbered II.,
Tuapeka East District, six thousand nine hundred
thirteen (6913) links; towards the South South-
east by Block numbered II., Tuapeka East District,
five thousand nine hundred and forty-five (5945)
links; towards the South-west by Block numbered I.,
Tuapeka East District, four thousand (4000) links;
towards the South-east by the said Block numbered
I., five hundred (500) links; again towards the South-
west by the said Block numbered I., two thousand
(2000) links; and towards the North-west by the
said Block numbered I., five hundred (500) links;
also by Blocks numbered respectively I., and XX.,
Tuapeka East District, three thousand six hundred
and seventy (3670) links.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
