BOWEN PRIZE COMPETITION, 1876.
THE Examiners appointed by the Senate have
reported that the Essay sent in under the
motto "Phantom," written by Frederick Fitchett, of
Christchurch, is entitled to receive the Bowen Prize
for 1876, and the Senate have awarded the prize
accordingly to Frederick Fitchett.
The Examiners report that the Essays sent in this
year, especially that under the motto "Quot homines
tot sententiæ," show a marked improvement on those
of former years.

thority of the 70th clause of "The Local Boards
Act, 1873," of the Province of Wellington.
