whereas at an inquest held on the 6th instant, at the
Bridge Hotel, Kaitangata, by J. G. Smith, Esquire,
Coroner, to inquire as to the origin of the said fire, the
jury returned the following verdict: "That the fire
was wilfully and maliciously caused by some person
or persons at present unknown:"

This is to notify that His Excellency the Governor
will grant a Free Pardon to any person implicated in
the said act, not being a principal offender, who
shall give such information as will lead to the appre-
hension and conviction of any one or more of the
other offenders.

T HE following Notice to Mariners, received from
the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, Mel-
bourne, is published for general information.

AUTOMATIC BUOY, SOUTH CHANNEL.

PILOTS, masters of vessels, and others navigating
Port Phillip Bay, are hereby informed that a trial is
about to be made of an automatic buoy, which will
be placed half a cable's length to the northward of
No. 15 buoy in the South Channel.

The buoy is pear shaped, and coloured dark red;
having what is said to be a continuously sounding
whistle on its top.

Mariners are cautioned not to mistake this trial
buoy for No. 15, which is black, with a staff and ball
on it.

tion of "The Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875,"
been pleased to reappoint

WILLIAM CRUSH DALDY, Esq.,
to be a member of the Auckland Harbour Board, as
provided in the 11th section of "The Auckland
Harbour Board Act, 1871;" and has fixed Thursday,
the 17th day of May next, for the election of a
member in room of a retiring elected member, the
place of election to be the Mechanics' Institute, at
Auckland.

"The Cattle and Sheep Ordinance, 1875," of the
former Province of Otago, as the said Ordinance is
validated by the Act of the General Assembly inti-
tuled "The Diseased Sheep Act, 1876."
