  1. THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare the
following house or building to be a Public Prison:—
The Lock-up at Opotiki, in the Province of
Auckland.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
thirtieth day of October, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-six.

"The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1874," brought
into operation in the Province of Hawke's Bay.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Inspection of Machinery
Act, 1874," it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor, on the request of the
Superintendent of any province, to bring the said Act
into operation in any such province or any part
thereof to be defined as a district under the powers
thereinafter contained; and upon a Proclamation
being made by the Governor in the New Zealand
Gazette to that effect, the said Act shall be in force
within such province or part thereof to be defined as
aforesaid, as the case may be: And by the said Act
it is also enacted that upon any such request as
aforesaid, it shall be lawful for the Governor, by
Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette, from time
to time to define and describe one or more districts
within any such province, with such boundaries as
the Superintendent may think convenient; and the
Governor may from time to time alter the boundaries
of districts formed or hereafter to be formed under
the said Act; and in and by any such Proclamation,
he may assign to any such district a name by which
it shall be called or known for the purposes of the
said Act:

And whereas the Superintendent of the province
mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto,
has requested that the said Act should be brought
into operation within the province for which he is
Superintendent, and also that the said province
should be defined to be a district as hereinafter
mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, the Most Honorable George
Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pur-
suance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in me by the said Act, and in compliance with
the request of the said Superintendent as aforesaid,
do hereby proclaim and declare that "The Inspection
of Machinery Act, 1874," shall be and the same is
hereby brought into operation within the province
mentioned in the first column of the said Schedule:

And in further pursuance and exercise of the said
power and authority, and in compliance with such
request as aforesaid, I do hereby proclaim and declare
that the territory comprised within the boundary of
the said province shall be and the same is hereby
defined and described as a district within the meaning
and for the purposes of the said Act; and I do also
hereby assign to the district mentioned in the first
column of the said Schedule the name set forth in
the second column of the said Schedule opposite to
the name of such district.

Defining District under "The Licensing Act, 1873."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Licensing Act, 1873," it is,
amongst other things, enacted that the Go-
vernor shall, as soon as conveniently may be after
the passing of the said Act, by Proclamation in the
Government Gazette define such territorial divisions
as he may think proper to be Licensing Districts
for the purposes of the said Act, and from time to
time may alter and re-define the boundaries of the
same:

And whereas by a Proclamation bearing date the
twenty-third day of February, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-four, the Districts of Grey and
Town of Ahaura were, amongst others, constituted
under the said "Licensing Act, 1873:" And whereas
it is expedient to abolish the said districts, and define
another district in lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of
the hereinbefore recited Act, and of every power
and authority enabling me in this behalf, do hereby
abolish the said Districts of Grey and Town of
Ahaura, and do proclaim, constitute, and appoint
that the territorial division, the boundaries whereof
are defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto,
shall be a Licensing District for the purposes of the
