Negotiations for Purchase of Tuwhakatupua Block.
(L.S.) NORMANBY, Governor.
WHEREAS by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act Amendment Act, 1871," the
Governor is, among other things, empowered to
enter into arrangements for the acquisition of par-
ticular portions of land in the North Island for the
purpose of mining for gold, for the establishment of
special settlements, or for the purpose of railway
construction:
And by the said Act it is also provided that it
shall be lawful for the Governor, whenever he shall
have determined to enter into negotiations for the
purchase of such land, to insert a notice in the New
Zealand Gazette that it is his intention to enter into
such negotiations, and after such notice is inserted
it shall not be lawful for any one to purchase or
acquire from the Native owners any right, title, or
interest, or contract for the purchase or acquisition
from the Native owners of any right, title, or in-
terest, in the lands specified in such notice, unless
the notice be cancelled by the Governor: Provided
that no such notice shall have longer operation than
for the period of two years:

lands in the said Province of Westland, the bound-
aries whereof are described in the Schedule hereunto
annexed, for the uses of the Colonial Government,
and other public purposes, as in the said Schedule is
more particularly specified.
SCHEDULE.
PROVINCE OF WESTLAND.
ALL those parcels of land in the Town of Hokitika con-
taining by admeasurement four (4) acres and sixteen
(16) poles, more or less, and being Sections numbered
1231, 1232, 1233, 1234, 1235, 1236, 1237, 1238, 1239,
1240, 1241, 1242, 1243, 1244, 1245, 1246, 1247, and
1248, on the plan of the said town.
Sections numbered 1231, 1232, and 1233, contain-
ing two (2) roods and sixteen (16) poles, more or less;
being bounded towards the North-east by the Town
Belt North, three hundred (300) links; towards the
South-east by Hall Street, two hundred (200) links;
towards the South-west by Reserve No. 499, three
hundred (300) links; and towards the North-west by
Section No. 1230, two hundred (200) links.
Sections numbered 1234, 1235, 1236, 1237, 1238,
1239, 1240, 1241, 1242, 1243, 1244, 1245, 1246, 1247,
and 1248, containing three (3) acres and two (2)
roods, more or less; being bounded towards the
North-east by Reserve No. 499, five hundred (500)
links; towards the South-east by Hall Street, seven
hundred (700) links; towards the South-west by
Tudor Street, five hundred (500) links; and towards
the North-west by Bealy Street, seven hundred (700)
links—for a site for Immigration Barracks.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and
Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the
County of York, in the Peerage of the
United Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave
of New Ross, in the County of Wexford,
in the Peerage of Ireland; a Member of
Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy
Council; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same; at Welling-
ton, this nineteenth day of August, one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.

Now therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of
the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and in exercise
of the powers thereby vested in me, do hereby give
notice that it is my intention forthwith to enter into
negotiations for the purchase from the Native owners
of the block or parcel of land situate in the Province
of Wellington, and described in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that block or parcel of land in the Province of
Wellington, and Colony of New Zealand, called
or known by the name of Tuwhakatupua Nos. 1 and
2, and bounded as follows:-On the West and North,
by the Manawatu River; on the North-east, by the
Ahuaturanga Block (Crown land); on the South-
east by the Manawatu-Kukutauaki Blocks, Nos. 2A,
2B, 2c, 2F, and 2G; and on the South, by the Mana-
watu River.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her

Purposes.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority in me vested in this behalf by the Re-
Provincial Ordinances of Taranaki not disallowed by
the Governor.
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 24th August, 1875.
THE following Ordinances, passed by the Provin-
cial Council, and assented to by the Superin-
tendent of Taranaki on behalf of the Governor,
intituled
"The Education Ordinance 1874 Amendment
Ordinance, 1875;"
"The Sale of Liquors Ordinances Amendment
Ordinance, 1875;"
"The Scab Ordinance 1866 Amendment Ordi-
nance, 1875;" and
"The Town Boards of Taranaki Ordinance,
1875,"
having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency
has not been advised to exercise his power of dis-
allowance with respect to the same.
