NOTICE is hereby given, that the Harbour Master
at Wellington reports that it is the intention
of the Provincial Government to establish, on and
after the 15th instant, a Harbour Light to the entrance
to the Manawatu River. This light will be shown
from a lantern at the flagstaff, and will be 45 feet
above the level of the sea. It will be a white light,
and be visible in clear weather all round seaward at
a distance of about eleven miles, allowing 10 feet for
the height of the observer's eye.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
No. 14 of 1875.
Customs Department (Marine Branch),
Wellington, 7th July, 1875.
THE following Notice to Mariners, received from
the Portmaster at Brisbane, is published for
general information.
WILLIAM H. REYNOLDS.
SOUTH ENTRANCE, MORETON BAY.
In consequence of changes which have taken place
457
in the south entrance to Moreton Bay, the following
alterations are made in the sailing directions for
entering by that channel :-
To carry the deepest water over the bar, near the
crossing now in use, keep the westernmost rocky
knoll just open to the eastward of the centre hum-
mock of the triple hill at the back. When over the
outer bar, haul up, and gradually bring the rocky
knoll in a line with the centre hummock, passing the
western spit of the detached break at a short cable's
distance, and keeping those marks on until the bea-
cons at the south end of Moreton Island are well open
of the north-east end of the south break.
The beacons in line lead in, over the Bar, to the
northward of the detached break, in 14 feet 6 inches
low-water springs-past the south break and up the
main channel as formerly.
There is also a channel over the bar on the
south side of, and at a short cable's distance from, the
detached break, with about 13 feet 6 inches at low
water.
As it cannot be expected that so many channels
will long remain open to their present depth, due
precaution must be observed in taking the bar.
G. P. HEATH,
Commander R.N., Portmaster.
