N.B.---The Auckland and Hokitika Hospitals are outside the boundaries of the respective boroughs.
The numbers of the population must not be taken as absolutely correct, as the compilation from the schedules may cause a
slight alteration. The numbers given do not include the persons on board ship.
The number of births in June was greater than any for any previous month during the year, with the exception of the
month of February; the births then being 292.
Of the total deaths, males contributed 70; females, 40: 42 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 38\cdot18
of the whole number; 29 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
The deaths of children under 5 years of age are slightly in excess of the number that died last month, when they were 5;
but otherwise fewer than in any previous month of the year.
There were 4 cases of death of persons of 65 years of age and upwards, viz., 1 female, aged 70, in Auckland; 1 female,
aged 65, and 1 male, aged 73, in Christchurch; and 1 female, aged 67, in Dunedin.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and
the proportions per cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the month of
June, 1874.
