Order in Council conferring certain Powers under
"The District Courts Act Amendment Act, 1865,"
on the Judge of the East Coast District Court.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At Christchurch, this seventeenth day of November,
1873.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The District
Courts Act Amendment Act, 1865," it is enacted that
the powers conferred on Judges of District Courts in
and by the twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth, and twenty-
seventh sections of "The District Courts Act,
1858," shall be exercised only within such districts
as shall from time to time be named by the Governor,
by Order in Council published in the New Zealand
Gazette, as districts within which such powers may
be exercised:

Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
exercise of the power and authority so vested in
him as aforesaid, doth, by and with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council, name and appoint
the East Coast District, as defined in and by a certain
Proclamation dated the seventeenth day of November
instant, to be a district within which the Judge of the
East Coast District Court may exercise the powers
conferred by the twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth, and
twenty-seventh sections of "The District Courts
Act, 1858."

Delegation of Governor's Powers under "The Neglected
Children's Act, 1873," to the Superintendent of the
Province of Otago.

At Christchurch, this twentieth day of
November, 1873.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Neglected Children's Act,
1873," it is, amongst other things, enacted that
it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, under
his hand and the Public Seal of the Colony, from
time to time to delegate to the Superintendent of any
Province the powers vested in the Governor by
section twenty-two of "The Neglected and Criminal
Children's Act, 1867:"

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in
pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in me by the said in part recited Act, and by
and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Colony, do hereby delegate unto

JAMES MACANDREW, Esq.,

the Superintendent of the Province of Otago, in the
said Colony, all the powers vested in the Governor
by the twenty-second section of "The Neglected and
Criminal Children's Act, 1867," to have, hold, and
exercise such powers so long as the said James
Macandrew shall be and remain the Superintendent
of the said Province.

Appointing a Justice of the Peace under "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1867."

JAMES FERGUSSON, Govenor.

WHEREAS by the one hundred and thirty-third
section of an Act of the General Assembly of
New Zealand, intituled "The Municipal Corporations
Act, 1867," it is enacted that it shall be the duty of
the Town Clerk of every borough, as soon as con-
veniently may be after every election of a Mayor for
such borough, to give notice to the Colonial Secretary
for the time being of such election, and of the person
elected; and it shall be lawful for the Governor, if he
shall think fit, and if such person shall not then be a
Justice of the Peace, by warrant under his hand
published in the New Zealand Gazette, to appoint
such person to be a Justice of the Peace for the
Colony; and it is also thereby enacted that in every
such appointment it shall be expressed that it is made
under the one hundred and thirty-third section of
the said Act; and it is further declared that such
appointment shall continue in force only during
the Mayoralty of such person, and the person so
appointed shall not, by virtue of such appointment,
be authorized to sit or act as a Justice of the Peace
elsewhere than within the borough:

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pur-
suance and exercise of the said power and authority
in me vested in this behalf, do hereby appoint

GEORGE GLENN, Esq.,

the person elected to be the Mayor of the Borough of
Greymouth, to be a Justice of the Peace under the
one hundred and thirty-third section of "The Muni-
cipal Corporations Act, 1867."

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson,
Baronet, a member of Her Majesty's
Most Honorable Privy Council, Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same, at Christchurch, this twenty-second
day of November, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
three.

Warrant fixing intervals of Sittings of the East
Coast District Court.

JAMES FERGUSSON, Governor.

WHEREAS by "The District Courts Act, 1858,"
it is provided that there shall be within the
Colony Courts of Record, to be called District
Courts, and the Governor is empowered, from time
to time, by notification in the New Zealand Gazette,
to fix the times and places within the district at
which every such Court shall be held: And whereas
by "The District Courts Act Amendment Act, 1865,"
it is provided that as to the times of the holding of
such Courts it shall be sufficient for the Governor, if
he shall so think fit, to fix the interval only within
which such Courts shall be held at each place; and
it shall in such case be lawful for the Judge of such
Court to fix the particular times and days for the
holding of such Courts in the manner and subject to
the provisions therein contained:

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do
hereby, in pursuance and exercise of the said power
and authority, fix that Sessions of the East Coast
District Court for civil and criminal business shall
