Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint, that, on
and from the first day of September next, the Wharf
or Jetty at the end of the street known as Wharf
Street shall be deemed and taken to be the legal
Landing Place at the Port of Tauranga for the lading
and unlading of goods under the Customs Regulation
Act.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson,
Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty's
Most Honorable Privy Council, Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this twenty-seventh day of
August, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-
three.

Proclaiming Wellington Gaol under “Extradition
Act, 1870."

WARRANT.

WHEREAS by the Act of the Parliament of the
United Kingdom, called "The Extradition
Act, 1870," it is enacted that the said Act shall,
subject to the provisions of the said Act, extend to
every British Possession in the same manner as if
throughout the said Act the British Possessions were
substituted for the United Kingdom or England, as
the case may require, but with certain modifica-
tions, and, amongst others, that any prison in the
British Possessions may be substituted for a prison
in Middlesex:

Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, the
Governor of New Zealand, do hereby substitute, for
the purposes of the said Act, the Public Gaol in the
City of Wellington, in the Province of Wellington
and Colony of New Zealand, for the Middlesex
House of Detention.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson,
Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty's
Most Honorable Privy Council, Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its

Despatch from the Secretary of State respecting the
Extradition Treaty between Her Majesty and the
King of Italy.

THE following Despatch, with Enclosure, from
Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for
the Colonies, correcting an error in Article XVIII,
of the Treaty between Her Majesty and the King of
Italy, published in New Zealand Gazette, No. 48, of
31st July, is published for general information.

Downing Street, 24th May, 1873.

SIR,-With reference to my Circular Despatch of the
10th of April, enclosing copy of a Treaty between
Her Majesty and the King of Italy for the mutual
surrender of fugitive Criminals, I have the honor to
transmit to you, for your information, a copy of a
declaration signed at Rome by Sir Augustus Pagot
and M. Visconti Venosta on the 7th of this month
correcting an error in the date of a Maltese Ordi-
nance mentioned at the end of the 18th Article of
that Treaty.

DECLARATION RECTIFYING AN ERROR IN ARTICLE
XVIII OF THE TREATY BETWEEN HER MAJESTY
AND THE KING OF ITALY OF THE 5TH FEBRUARY,
1873, FOR THE MUTUAL SURRENDER OF FUGITIVE
CRIMINALS, SIGNED AT ROME, MAY 7, 1873.

THE Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipo-
tentiary of Her Majesty the Queen of Great
Britain and Ireland to His Majesty the King of
Italy, and His Italian Majesty's Minister for Foreign
Affairs, having concurrently recognized a material
error in the date of the Ordinance of the Maltese
Government of the 21st February, 1863, as it is
mentioned at the end of the XVIIIth Article of the
Extradition Treaty of the 5th of February, 1873,
between Great Britain and Italy, have, by common
consent, declared that the words:—

"Finally, it is agreed that this stipulation does not
apply to the Island of Malta, the Ordinance of the
Maltese Government of May 3, 1863 (No. 1230),
remaining in full force," shall be read:—

"Finally, it is agreed that this stipulation does
not apply to the Island of Malta, the Ordinance of
the Maltese Government of the 21st of February,
1863, remaining in full force."

The present Declaration is signed in duplicate at
Rome, this 7th day of May, 1873.

having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency
has been pleased to assent to the same.
