THE following Regulations of the New Zealand
University, approved by His Excellency the
Officer Administering the Government in Council,
are published for general information.

  1. There shall be a yearly prize, to be called the
    Bowen Prize (of the value of not less than five
    pounds (£5) to be given for the best Essay, as herein-
    after provided. The prize, if a medal, shall be
    impressed with the arms of the University, and with
    the words "Bowen Prize" on the obverse side of the
    medal; and if of books, each volume shall be im-
    pressed with the arms of the University.

  2. The prize shall be open to all matriculated
    students of the University who shall not have taken
    their degree.

  3. The Examiners shall be the Chancellor, the Vice-
    Chancellor, and one other person to be appointed by
    the Council of the University in each year.

  4. The subject of the Essay shall be selected by
    the Examiners appointed as above, or any two of
    them, and shall, after the year 1873, be given out in
    the first week of the Lent Term; and the Essays
    shall be sent in to the Registrar before the end of
    the next ensuing Michaelmas Term: Provided that
    the subject of the Essay for the year 1873 shall be
    given out before the termination of the Lent Term.

  5. The subject of the Essay shall be connected
    with or shall bear reference to British History,
    or the history, institutions, or destinies of the
    British Colonies, or any of them.

ISSUE OF £250,000 NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT
DEBENTURES IN NEW ZEALAND.

Wellington, 8th April, 1873.

TENDERS are invited for the purchase of the
whole or any portion of Two Hundred and Fifty
Thousand Pounds New Zealand Government Deben-
tures, issued under the Acts of the Legislature of
the Colony entitled "The Immigration and Public
Works Loan Act, 1870," and "The Defence and
Other Purposes Loan Act, 1870," subject to the
under-mentioned conditions :-

  1. The Debentures will be payable to Bearer,
    and will be issued in sums of not less than
    One Hundred Pounds each.

  2. The Debentures, which are secured on the
    Consolidated Revenue of the Colony will bear
    interest at the rate of 4 per cent. per annum,
    payable half-yearly, on the 15th day of April
    and the 15th day of October in each year, at
    the Bank of New Zealand at Auckland, New
    Plymouth, Wellington, Napier, Nelson, Blen-
    heim, Christchurch, Greymouth, Hokitika,
    Dunedin, or Invercargill.

  3. The principal sum will be payable on the
    15th day of April, 1913, at the Treasury at
    Wellington, or at any Branch of the Bank
    of New Zealand in New Zealand, at the op-
    tion of the holder, six months' notice being
    required, previous to maturity, of the place at
    which payment will be required.

  4. Tenders will be opened at the Treasury at
    Wellington, at noon on Friday, the ninth day
    of May next, in the presence of such of the
    tenderers as desire to be present-the mini-
    mum price under seal being first placed on the
    table. In the event of equal tenders being
    received for a sum in excess of the issue, a
    pro rata distribution will be made.

  5. The amount tendered for must be paid at the
    Treasury at Wellington, as under:-

5 per cent. accompanying application; the
balance on or before the 16th May, 1873.

Or, at the option of the purchasers, -
5 per cent. on application.
20 per cent. in one month,
25 per cent. in two months,
25 per cent. in three months,
25 per cent. in four months,
} with accrued
interest.

On payment of the final instalment, Debentures
signed by the Agents appointed under the respective
Acts, will be delivered to purchasers or their
nominees.

Half per cent. brokerage will be allowed to brokers
through whose applications sales are effected.

Applications by telegraph, received not later than
10 o'clock on the 9th May, will be accepted, provided
they are accompanied by a telegram from the
Manager of any Branch or Agency of the Bank of
New Zealand, notifying that the necessary deposit
has been paid into the Bank of New Zealand, to the
credit of a Loan Deposit Account.

FORM OF TENDER.

I HEREBY tender for £ New Zealand Four per Cent.
Debentures, at the price of £ for each £100 of such
Debentures; and I agree to accept the same or any less amount
that may be allotted to me, and to pay for them in cash at the
Bank of New Zealand (a) on .

(a) The name of the place at which the purchaser undertakes payment
of the balance to be inserted here.

  • Purchasers electing to pay balance within a week will be
    entitled to interest from the 15th day of April.

PURSUANT to the provisions of an Act of the
General Assembly of New Zealand, passed in
the eighteenth year of the reign of Her Majesty
Queen Victoria, and intituled "The Marriage Act,
1854," the following name of an Officiating Minister
within the meaning of the said Act is published for
general information:--

I, JOHN B. BENNETT, Registrar-General of Births,
Deaths, and Marriages in New Zealand, do hereby
certify that the foregoing Name of an Officiating
Minister, within the meaning of "The Marriage
Act, 1854," has been sent in to me, in addition to
the names in Lists published in the New Zealand
Gazette, No. 6, of the 30th January; No. 9, of the
13th February; No. 11, of the 27th February; No.
17, of the 20th of March; No. 22, of the 10th of
April; and No. 25, of the 24th of April, in the present
year.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
twenty-sixth day of April, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-three.
