WHEREAS by "The Sale of Poisons Act, 1871,"
it is among other things enacted that the Governor may from time to time, by warrant under his hand, appoint for each Province or other division of the Colony a person to be Registrar under the said Act; and also, that each Registrar shall have an office at such town or place as the Governor may from time to time direct; and at such office he shall keep the register for the Province or other division for which he is appointed: And whereas by warrants under his hand, respectively bearing even date herewith, the Governor hath, in pursuance of the powers vested in him under the said Act, appointed the several persons named in the first column of the Schedule hereto to be Registrars under the said Act for the Provinces or other divisions of the Colony named in the second column of the said Schedule: And whereas it is expedient that the town or places at which the said Registrars shall have their offices should be notified as required by the said Act:
Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the authority vested in me by the said Act, do hereby direct and require each of the said several persons so appointed as aforesaid, to have and keep his office, as such Registrar as aforesaid, at the place in the town mentioned in the third column of the said Schedule, and set opposite to his name respectively.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-first day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-one.

WHEREAS by "The County of Westland Act, 1868," it is, among other things, enacted that within the period of fifteen days before or after the day appointed for the holding of any election or meeting of the County Council or of any Road Board, or for the doing of any act, matter, or thing by the said Act required to be done on or before a day certain, it shall be lawful for the Governor to extend the time allowed for the holding of such election or meeting, or for the doing of any such act, matter, or thing as aforesaid, notwithstanding the day may have passed on which the same ought to have been held or done, and to adopt or cause to be adopted such measures as may be necessary to remove any obstacle of a technical or formal nature by which the carrying out of the provisions of the said Act relating to such elections or meetings as aforesaid may be impeded, and to supply any deficiency which may be required to be supplied, in order to enable the said provisions to be duly carried out: Provided always that any such measure so adopted by the Governor shall be duly notified in the New Zealand Gazette: And whereas by the said Act it is also enacted that annual elections of the Members of Road Boards of Road Districts shall be held on the second Thursday of December in each year, as therein mentioned; and by the said Act it is further enacted that, fourteen clear days before any election thereunder, public notice of such election shall be given by advertisement as therein also mentioned: And whereas, by inadvertence, notice of the election of Members for the Road Board of the Paroa and Okarito Road Districts hath not been given in accordance with the last-mentioned enactment, and it is expedient that the time for the holding of such elections should be extended as and in manner hereinafter mentioned:
Now therefore, His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the power and authority in him vested by the said Act, doth hereby extend the time allowed for the holding of the election of Members of the Road Boards of the Paroa and Okarito Road Districts from the said second Thursday of the month of December instant, on which day the said election ought, according to the provisions of the said Act, to have been held, to the fourth day of January next.

WILLIAM HENRY EYES, Esq.,
to be Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Province of Marlborough. This appointment dates from the 11th instant.
