A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the second section of "The Colo-
nial Forces Courts-Martial Act, 1868," it is
enacted that the Governor may from time to time,
by Proclamation published in the New Zealand
Gazette, appoint and declare any portion of the
Colony defined in such Proclamation to be a
"Disturbed District" within the meaning of the
said second section of the said Act; and that during
the time that any of the officers or men of the New
Zealand Armed Constabulary, embodied under "The
Armed Constabulary Act, 1867," shall be stationed,
employed, or in any way on service within any
district proclaimed under the said section of the said
Act as a Disturbed District, all things contained in
any Act of the Imperial Parliament which shall then
be in force in New Zealand for punishing Mutiny
and Desertion, and for the better payment of the
Army and their quarters, and in the Articles of War
made in pursuance of such Act, shall apply to, and
the powers thereby created shall be exercised by,
such officers and men of the New Zealand Armed
Constabulary aforesaid:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, in exercise and in pur-
suance of the power and authority in that behalf
vested in me, do hereby proclaim and declare all that
portion of the Colony situated within the Provinces
of Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, and Wellington,
and bounded as follows, that is to say:-All the
territory in the North Island of New Zealand com-
prised between the thirty-seventh and fortieth degrees
of South latitude to be a "Disturbed District"
within the meaning of the second section of "The
Colonial Forces Courts-Martial Act, 1868," afore-
said.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of
Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and
its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of
the same, at the Government House,
at Wellington; and issued under the
Seal of the said Colony, this third
day of May, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
nine.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Resident Magistrates Act,
1867," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor from time to time, by Proclamation in
the New Zealand Gazette, to constitute throughout
the Colony, or in any part thereof, districts to be
called Resident Magistrates' Districts, and such
districts from time to time to abolish, and the hound-
aries to define and alter, and in any such Proclamation
to fix a time on and from which any such district
shall be constituted or abolished, as the case may be:
And whereas, by a Proclamation bearing date the
twenty-ninth day of November, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-seven, published in the New
Zealand Gazette on the twenty-first day of December,
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven, His
Excellency the Governor, in pursuance and exercise
of the powers and authorities for that purpose vested
in him, did proclaim and declare the districts
described in the Schedule to the said Proclamation,
including amongst other districts the District of
Greymouth and the District of Hokitika, to be, on and
from the first day of January, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-eight, Resident Magistrates' Dis-
tricts within the meaning of the said Act:

And whereas it is expedient to define and alter the
boundaries of the respective Districts of Greymouth
and Hokitika in manner hereinafter appearing:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers
and authorities for that purpose vested in me, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the boundaries of
the Districts of Greymouth and Hokitika, as the
same are defined and described in the Schedule hereto,
shall, from and after the first day of June one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, be the
boundaries of the Districts of Greymouth and Hoki-
tika within the meaning and for the purposes of " The
Resident Magistrates Act, 1867;" and I do hereby,
from the date aforesaid, define and alter the bound-
aries of the said districts accordingly.

SCHEDULE.

Greymouth District.

This district is bounded towards the North-east
by the southern boundary of the Province of Nelson,
from the mouth of the Grey River to the saddle
between the Hurunui and Teramakau Rivers; thence
towards the South by the said Teramakau River to
its mouth; and thence towards the North-west by the
sea to the commencing point at the mouth of the
River Grey.

Hokitika District.

This district is bounded towards the North by the
Greymouth District hereinbefore defined; towards
the South-east by the summit of the main range of
the southern Alps to the source of the Wanganui
River; thence towards the South-west by that river
to its mouth; and thence towards the North-west by
the sea to the commencing point at the mouth of the
Teramakau River.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand

and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her

jurisdiction of the Resident Magistrates' Courts for

HOKITIKA DISTRICT,
