WHEREAS by an Act of the Imperial Parliament
passed in the fifteenth and sixteenth years of
the reign of Her present Majesty, cap. seventy-two,
intituled "An Act to grant a Representative Consti-
tution to the Colony of New Zealand," the several
Provinces of Auckland, New Plymouth, Wellington,
Nelson, Canterbury, and Otago, are thereby estab-
lished'; and it is enacted that for each of the said
Provinces there shall be a Superintendent and
Provincial Council:

And whereas by the said Act it is further enacted
that every Provincial Council shall continue for the
period of four years from the day of return of the
writs for choosing the same, and no longer: Provided
always that it shall be lawful for the Governor of
New Zealand, by Proclamation or otherwise, to
dissolve the same whenever he shall think it ex-

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do by

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Militia Act, 1858," it is
enacted that on the occasions therein mentioned
it shall be lawful for the Governor, or such person as
he shall from time to time, by warrant under his
hand, appoint as his deputy for that purpose, to
direct the Officer commanding the Militia of any
District, with all convenient speed, to draw out such
Militia Force, and that such Militia shall continue on
actual service so long as, in the opinion of the Gover-
nor, the danger shall render their services necessary :

And whereas, by a warrant under my hand bearing
date the twenty-seventh day of August, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-eight, I appointed Donald
McLean, Esquire, my deputy for the purpose of
directing the Officer commanding the Napier Militia
District to draw out for actual service the men of
the Militia Force in the said District, and the said
Donald McLean subsequently caused the said men
to be drawn out for actual service:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance of the
power and authority vested in me by the said Act,
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the Colony, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the said force shall henceforth cease to
be on actual service.

the Seal of the said Colony, this third
day of May, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.
