CONVERSION OF THE PUBLIC DEBTS OF NEW
ZEALAND UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF "THE
CONSOLIDATED LOAN ACT, 1867."
THE Government of New Zealand is prepared,
under the powers granted by the Act above
mentioned, to issue in exchange for such of the
various Colonial and Provincial Securities as are now
in circulation, new debentures of uniform character,
charged on the Consolidated Revenue of New
Zealand.
These new debentures will bear interest at the
rate of five per cent. per annum, payable quarterly,
and the principal will be repaid at par by a one per
cent. cumulative sinking fund, applied by annual
drawings to the extinction of the debt. By this
process the whole amount will be paid off in about
thirty-six years.
The debentures will be made to represent sums of
£1,000, £500, £200, and £100 respectively, and
fractions of the latter amount which may be un-
avoidable in the conversion will be adjusted either by
the issue of one debenture, or by the payment of the
difference in money.
The annual drawings will take place in the month
of March, commencing in 1869, and will be conducted
in the presence of the Crown Agents for the Colonies,
of any debenture holders who may be pleased to
attend, and of a notary public. The debentures
drawn will be paid off at par on the 15th April fol-
lowing, together with the interest due thereon.
The days on which such drawings will take place,
and the numbers and values of the debentures drawn,
will be duly notified by advertisement in the London
Gazette and The Times.
Applications for conversion from persons residing
in New Zealand will be received by the following
persons-
Hon. D. Pollen ... Auckland,
J. T. Catley ... Nelson,
J. Woodward ... Wellington,
J. W. Hamilton ... Christchurch,
T. Hill ... Dunedin,
A. J. Elles ... Invercargill,
from whom all particulars as to terms, &c., can be
obtained.
The debentures which are to be exchanged must
be deposited with one of the abovenamed persons on
or before the 31st day of January, 1869. A receipt
will be given for them, and the new debentures will
be issued to parties holding such receipts as soon
as they can be obtained from the Agent of the
Government in London; or the new debentures will,
if so desired, be delivered in London to the order of
the person to whom such receipts were issued.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
HYDRA ROCK, CAPE SAUNDERS.
Marine Department,
Wellington, November 5th, 1868.
NOTICE is hereby given that on the 15th of Sep-
tember last the "Hydra" struck, and received
considerable damage, in the vicinity of Cape Saunders.
She was drawing eighteen feet, and it was nearly low-
water springs at the time of the accident. Captain
Rich, of the "Hydra," gives the following as the
bearings of the place where she struck :-
Cape Saunders ... S. by W.W.
Funnel of "Victory" (wreck
in Wickliffe Bay) ... S.W. by W.W.
Woman's Head (most easterly
land near Tairoa Head) ... N.W.N.
Captain Tall, of the s.s. "Tairoa," reports having
seen a "break," on very similar bearings, in August
last, and others have since stated that they knew of
a danger in that locality; its exact position has not
however been as yet determined, and mariners are
warned to exercise great caution when near the posi-
tion indicated by the bearings, and are also requested
to forward to this office any information likely to aid
in determining the true position of the rock.
So far as present information is to be depended on,
a vessel will be clear inside the most westerly reported
position of the danger so long as "Woman's" or
"East Head" is shut in by Remarkable Cliff Point,
and will be clear outside the most easterly reported
position so long as "East Head" is brought nothing
to the north of N.W.W.
