And I do further appoint the polling place at
Hokitika, to be the principal polling place for the
respective Districts of Town of Hokitika and Dis-
trict of Westland, and the Warden's Court at
Greymouth to be the principal polling place for the
District of Greymouth.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Grey, Knight Commander of the
Most Honorable Order of the Bath,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and issued
at Wellington, this twentieth day of
January, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, the
eighth day of January, 1868.
Present:
THE PRESIDENT AND MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE
COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The Miners'
Representation Act, 1862," power is given to the
Governor in Council to appoint a distinguishing
stamp or mark for impression upon every Miner's
Right in respect of which any person shall vote at
the election of Members of a Provincial Council in
any Province in which a Gold Field has been pro-
claimed.

And whereas by another Act of the General
Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The County of
Westland Act, 1867," all the laws applicable to the
election of Members of Provincial Councils are made
applicable to the election of Members of the Council
of the County of Westland:

Now therefore, Sir George Grey, K.C.B., the
Governor, with the advice and consent of the Execu-
tive Council of the Colony, doth hereby appoint that
from and after the twentieth day of January, 1868, the
Stamp to be impressed by the Returning Officer or
person appointed by him for that purpose at each
polling place, upon Miners' Rights and Business
Licenses, in accordance with the provisions contained
in the said Acts and in "The Miners' Representation
Act Amendment Act, 1865," in the election of
Members of the Council of the County of Westland,
shall be a Stamp bearing the words "Miners' Fran-
chise exercised," and the date of such exercise.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The County of
Westland Act, 1867," it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor in Council to do and order
all things necessary for bringing the said Act into
operation according to the true intent thereof:

Now therefore, Sir George Grey, K.C.B., the
Governor, with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the Colony, pursuant to and
in exercise of such power, doth hereby order as
follows:-

  1. That the Council of the County of Westland
    shall, when duly elected, hold its first meeting at the
    Court House in the Town of Hokitika, on Monday,
    the tenth day of February, 1868, and that the
    times and places of future meetings of the said
    Council shall be fixed, from time to time, by the said
    Council, as may be most consistent with general
    convenience.

  2. That the chairman of the said Council, being
    the member appointed by the Governor, shall preside
    at the meetings of such Council; but in his absence
    some member elected by the Council shall preside.

  3. The Council shall not be competent to the
    despatch of any business unless one-half of the whole
    number of members be present.

  4. All questions which shall arise in such Council
    shall be decided by the majority of votes of the
    members present other than the chairman or presid-
    ing member; but in all cases wherein the votes shall
    be equal, the chairman or presiding member shall
    have a casting vote.

  5. The Council at their first meeting and from time
    to time afterwards as occasion may require shall pre-
    pare and adopt such standing rules and orders as
    may be best adapted for the orderly conduct of the
    business of such Council which rules and orders shall
    be laid before the Governor, or his delegate under
    "The County of Westland Act, 1867," and being by
    either of them approved, shall then become binding
    and in force.

lawful for the Governor in Council to constitute and
define road districts in the County of Westland, and
such districts from time to time to alter or abolish,
and to provide for the constitution of Boards for the
management of the business of such districts, and
from time to time to make regulations for the election
of such Boards, and for defining the number of
members thereof, and such regulations from time to
time alter or repeal:

Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in
exercise of the power vested in him by the said Act,
doth hereby, with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the Colony, constitute and
define the under-described districts and provide for
the following constitution of Boards for the manage-
ment of the business of such districts, and make the
following regulations for the election of such Boards,
and for defining the number of members thereof:

THE GREY ROAD DISTRICT.

Commencing at the mouth of the Grey River,
thence easterly up the said river to the junction of
the Arnold River with it, thence up the Arnold River
