Proclamation declaring Districts under "Registration
Act, 1858."

A PROCLAMATION

By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight
Commander of the Most Honorable Order
of the Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same,
&c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by the "Registration Act, 1858," it
is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Gover-
nor at any time, by Proclamation in the New Zealand
Gazette, to divide the Colony of New Zealand for the
purposes of the said Act into such and so many
Districts as he may think fit, and that every such
District shall be called by a distinct name and shall
be a Registrar's District; and it is provided that the
Governor may at any time revoke the whole or any
part of such Proclamation and issue a new Proclama-
tion, dividing the Colony or any part of it anew into
Districts, or increasing the number or altering the
boundaries of Districts as from time to time he may
think requisite:

And whereas by two Proclamations duly made and
issued, bearing date respectively the Sixth day of
July, 1859, and the Ninth day of August, 1860, the
Governor, in pursuance of the said recited power and
authority, did create certain Districts:

And whereas it is expedient to alter the boundaries
of some of those Districts and to increase the
number thereof:

Now, therefore, I, Sir George Grey, the Governor
of the said Colony, do hereby, in pursuance and
further exercise of the power and authority vested in
me by the said recited Act, revoke the said two
Proclamations so far as they relate to the territory
comprised in the Districts of Auckland, Drury,
Raglan, Thames, Tauranga, Turanga and Rangiao-
whia, and do proclaim and declare that such territory
shall be divided for the purposes of the said Act into
Eight Districts, the names and boundaries whereof
shall be as follows:-

AUCKLAND DISTRICT.
Bounded on the North by the mid-channel of the
Kaipara Harbour by the Tapora mid-channel to the
Hoteo River, and by the Hoteo River to its junction
with the Kaitote River, by a line thence southward
to the South-west corner of the Ahuroa Block, thence
by a line to the source of the Pukapuka Creek, thence
by the centre of that Creek to Mahurangi Harbour,
North Head; on the East by the sea from Mahurangi
North Head to the Wairoa River; on the South by
the Wairoa River, by Hewling's line, by the eastern
and northern boundaries of the village of Papakura,
by the centre of the Papakura Creek, and by the North
shore of Manukau Harbour from Papakura Creek to
the Heads; and on the West by the sea from Man-
ukau to Kaipara Heads, the point of commencement,
including the islands of Rangitoto, Motutapu, Wai-
heke, Ponui, Pakihi, Brown's Island, Motuihi (or
Taylor's Island), Tiritirimatangi, Motuwhora, Mo-
tuketa, Motuaireka, Te Kawau, the Great and Little
Barriers, Weeks' Island, and all islands lying on the
West side of the Frith of the Thames; with the
Fanal Islands and Saddle Islands.

DRURY DISTRICT.
Bounded on the North by the waters of the Manu-
kau Harbour, and by the centre of the Papakura
Creek, by the northern and eastern boundaries of the
village of Papakura, by Hewling's line to the Wairoa
River, crossing the Wairoa River it follows that river
down to the sea; on the East by the Gulf of the
Thames by the Piako River to the junction of the
Tahunatapu Creek; on the South by a straight line
from the mouth of the Tahunatapu Creek to Puketa-
kauri on the Waikato River, thence across that river
in a straight line to the South shore of the Wangape
Lake, and thence in a straight line running West-
south-west to the West Coast; on the West by the
sea from the last mentioned point to Manukau Heads
the point of commencement.

RAGLAN DISTRICT.
Bounded on the North by the southern shore of
the Wangape Lake and by a straight line running
West-south-west from the western angle of the
Wangape Lake to the West Coast; on the West by
the sea southward to the Mokau River; on the South
by the Mokau River, from the mouth to the source ;
and on the East by a straight line from the source
of the Mokou River to the summit of Pirongia, and
by a straight line from the summit of Pirongia to
the Wangape Lake at the point of commencement.

THAMES DISTRICT.
Bounded on the North by the sea from the mouth
of the Piako River to the mouth of the Wangamata
Harbour; on the East by a straight line from the
mouth of the Wangamata Harbour to the summit of
Te Aroha, thence by a straight line to Mata Mata;
on the South by a straight line from Mata Mata to
the junction of the Waitakururu Creek with the
Piako River; on the West by the Piako River to the
sea at the point of commencement, including Whanga-
nui, Waimate, Motutaupiri, and Rangipuke Islands.

TAURANGA DISTRICT.
Bounded on the North by the sea; on the East by
the Wakatane River to its source and thence in a
straight line running South to the southern boundary
of the Province; on the South by the boundary of
the Province to the Upper Waikato River; and on
the West by the Upper Waikato River and eastern
shore of Taupo Lake and by the Waikato River
northward to the junction of the Orakeikorako stream,
then by a straight line to Mata Mata, thence by a
straight line to the summit of Te Aroha, and thence
by a straight line to the mouth of the Wangamata
Harbour, including all the islands in the Bay of
Plenty, East of Tuhua, and Motu Taiko in Taupo
Lake.

TURANGA DISTRICT.
Bounded on the North by the sea; on the West
by the Wakatane River and by a straight line run-
ning South from the source of Wakatane River to
the southern boundary of the Province of Auckland;
on the South by the Southern boundary of the Pro-
vince of Auckland; and on the East by the sea,
including East Island.

ALEXANDRA DISTRICT.
Bounded on the North by a line from the southern
shore of the Wangape Lake to the Waikato River at
Puketakauri, by the Waikato River to Puketa; on
the East by a line from Puketa to Kihikihi and a
line from Kihikihi to the most western point of the
shore of Taupo Lake, thence by the western shore
of Taupo Lake and Upper Waikato River to
the southern boundary of the Province; on the South
by the boundary of the Province; on the West by
the western boundary of the Province from the
