PROCLAMATION
Proclaiming certain Lands under the "New Zealand
Settlements Act, 1863."
By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight
Commander of the Most Honorable Order
of the Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its De-
pendencies, and Vice-Admiral of the
same, &c., &c., &c.
WHEREAS by the "New Zealand Settlements
Act, 1863," it was enacted amongst other things,
that whenever the Governor in Council shall be
satisfied that any native tribe or section of a tribe, or
any considerable number thereof have since the first
day of January, 1863, been engaged in rebellion
against Her Majesty's authority, it shall be lawful
for the Governor in Council to declare that the
District within which any land being the property or
in the possession of such tribe or section or consider-
able number thereof shall be situate, shall be a District
within the provisions of the said Act, and the bound-
aries of such District in like manner to define and
vary as he shall think fit.
And it is further enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor in Council from time to time to set
apart within any such District eligible sites for settle-
ments for colonization, and the boundaries of such
settlements to define and vary; and it is further
enacted that for the purpose of such settlements the
Governor in Council may from time to time reserve or
take any land within such District, and that such
land shall be deemed to be Crown Land, freed and
discharged from all title interest or claim of any
person whomsoever, as soon as the Governor in
Council shall have declared that such land is required
for the purposes of the said Act and is subject to the
provisions thereof:
And whereas, by a Proclamation of even date here-
with, in exercise of the powers vested in the Governor
by the said Act, the Governor hath declared that
certain lands within which the lands hereinafter de-
scribed are situate shall be a District within the pro-
visions of the said "New Zealand Settlements Act,
1863," and shall be designated by the name of Middle
Taranaki.
Now therefore, I, Sir George Grey, the Governor
as aforesaid, in further exercise of the power vested
in me by the said recited Act, do hereby, with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
Colony, set apart as an eligible site for settlement for
colonization, the land described in the Schedule to
this Proclamation, being land within the said pro-
claimed District of Middle Taranaki, and the Gover-
nor doth declare that the lands described in the said
Schedule are required for the purposes of the said
Act, and are subject to the provisions thereof, and
doth reserve and take such lands for such purposes
as aforesaid.
Given under my hand at the Government
House at Auckland, and issued under the
Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, this
Thirtieth day of January, in the year of
our Lord One thousand eight hundred
and sixty-five.

SCHEDULE.
Oakura.
Bounded on the North by the sea, on the
East by the Omata block, from the sea to where the
boundary of the Omata block is cut by the Native
path running between the Patua and Pouakai Ranges,
thence by a straight line running between the two
above mentioned Ranges till it cuts the Hangatahua
River, thence by the Hangatahua to the sea, except
the Block of land known by the name of the Tata-
raimaka Block.
PROCLAMATION.
Proclaiming that a certain Block of Land be with-
drawn from the Gold Field, Coromandel, to be reserved
for sale under the Waste Land Regulations.

and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c.,
&c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled the "Gold Fields
Act, 1862," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor at any time subsequent to the Procla-
mation of a Gold Field to reserve or withdraw for
purposes of sale any Waste Land or Lands within
any portion of a Gold Field over which a Pastoral
License does not exist, or has been cancelled or
suspended, and which he may deem necessary for
settlement, public purposes, or roads, which Land
shall then be dealt with under the Waste Land
Regulations of the Province in which such Gold
Field shall be declared:
And whereas by Proclamation, dated 15th day of
September, 1863, the District of Coromandel, in the
Province of Auckland, was constituted a Gold Field
under the aforesaid Act, and it is expedient that the
portion of the same hereinafter described be with-
drawn for purposes of sale in manner aforesaid:
And whereas the Governor in Council did duly
delegate to the Superintendent of the Province of
Auckland the aforesaid power of reservation and
withdrawal, but subject to the Governor's power to
revoke such delegation:
Now therefore I, Sir George Grey, the Governor
in Council as aforesaid, do revoke the said delegation
only so far and to such extent as may be inconsistent
with the present Proclamation.
And I do further, in pursuance of the said power
and authority, hereby proclaim and declare all that
Block hereinafter described to be withdrawn from
the Gold Field of Coromandel, and reserved for pur-
poses of sale under the Waste Land Regulations
of the Province of Auckland, that is to say:-
All that Block of Land situated at Coromandel,
and named Whakanekeneke, the boundaries whereof
are as follows-commencing at Te Awa Peka in the
Whangarahi Creek; thence by a right line bearing
80°, one thousand one hundred and seventy-nine
(1,179) links; thence by a right line bearing 160° 30',
three thousand three hundred (3,300) links; thence
by a right line bearing 250° 30', one thousand and
twenty (1,020) links; thence by a small stream to
the Whangarahi Creek; thence following the Whan-
garahi Creek to the commencing point.
And I declare that this Proclamation shall come
into operation and take effect on and from the day
of the date hereof.
