publication of the following Despatch
with its enclosure, received from Her Majesty's
Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies.

been pleased to direct that in naming Corps
and Companies, the word "Volunteer" be
affixed last, instead of as heretofore.

SIR,—I transmit for your information, the
copy of a Letter from the Secretary to the
General Post Office, notifying the change in
the days of making up the Mails to and from
Australia via Ceylon.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been
pleased to make the following appoint-
ment in the 1st Battalion of the "Auckland"
Regiment of New Zealand Militia :—
JAMES MCCABE to be Ensign. Date of
Commission, 13th September, 1860.

SIR,—I am directed by the Postmaster Ge-
neral to acquaint you, that the Mails for the
Australian Colonies and New Zealand, intended
to be forwarded from this country via South-
ampton, will in future be made up in London on
the morning of the 20th of each month, instead
of on the 12th, and the Mails to be forwarded
viâ Marseilles will be made up on the evening
of the 26th, instead of on the 18th of the
month.
On those occasions when the 20th of the
month falls on Sunday, the Mails for Australia
will be made up on the previous evening, and
when the 26th of the month falls on Sunday,
the Mails will be made up on the following
evening.
In consequence of this alteration, Mails for
Ceylon will no longer be despatched on the
12th and 18th of the month.
Commencing with the month of July, the
homeward Mails will henceforth be despatched
from Melbourne on the 26th of each month,
and ought to arrive with the Mails from Cal-
cutta and China, due at Marseilles on the 10th,
and at Southampton on the 18th, of every
month.
