The Council met pursuant to adjournment.
The Minutes of the last Meeting were read
and confirmed.
The Governor laid laid on on the the table table the the fol-
lowing Despatch from the Secretary of State,
No. 31, dated Ist of June, 1846.
On motion of Mr. Kennedy, Despatch read
by the Clerk, and ordered to be printed.

1st June, 1846.
SIR,I have received your Despatch,
No. 4, of the 23rd November last, reporting
the measures which you had adopted in con-
sequence of the disallowance of the local
Ordinance, authorizing the Governor of New
Zealand to issue Debentures, and to make
them a legal Tender.
- It does not appear to Her Majesty's Gov-
ernment, that there were any better measures
open to your adoption, under the embaras-
sing circumstances in which you were placed;
and I approve of the Proclamations which you
issued, on the occasion.
I take this opportunity of acquainting you,
that Her Majesty's Government have decided
to submit an Estimate to Parliament, of which
a copy is enclosed, for a vote of Β£30,000, for
the service of New Zealand, for the year
1846-7.

The Attorney-General moved the order of
the day for consideration in Committee of the
Supreme Court Rules' Bill.
Bill considered, reported, and ordered to be
read a third time on Thursday, the 5th of
November, 1846.
Moved by Mr. Domett, seconded by Mr.
Kennedy, "That the Legislative Council do
request His Excellency, the Lieutenant-Go-
vernor to confer with the Judges of the Supreme
Court, with a view to the revisal and reduc-
tion, if practicable, of the Fees of that Court."
Colonial Secretary gave notice that he
should move the second reading of the Duties
of Customs' Ordinance, on Thursday, the 5th
of November, 1846.
The Attorney-General gave notice that he
should move the suspension of the Standing
Rules and Orders, to enable the Council to
carry the Police Magistrates and Native Ex-
emption Ordinances Repeal Ordinance, through
its different stages, on Thursday, the 5th No-
vember, 1846.
The Governor laid on the table the follow-
ing Bills:
- An Ordinance to authorise compensa-
tion in Colonial Debentures to be made
to certain Claimants to Land in the
Colony of New Zealand. - An Ordinance to regulate the removal,
and the making and repairing of Arms,
Gunpowder, and other warlike stores,
within the Colony of New Zealand. - An Ordinance to repeal the Cattle
Trespass Amendment Ordinance, and to
provide for the summary recovery of
compensation for damage done by Cattle
Trespassing.
Ordered, that the said Bills be printed.
Council adjourned at half-past three o'clock
until two o'clock on Thursday, the 5th of
November, 1846.
THURSDAY, 5TH NOVEMBER, 1846.
PRESENT:

The Council met pursuant to adjournment.
The Minutes of the last Meeting were read
and confirmed.
The Attorney-General moved the order of
the day for the third reading of the Supreme
Court Rules' Ordinance.
Bill read a third time, and passed.
The Colonial Secretary moved the order of
the day for the second reading of the Customs
Duties Ordinance.
Bill read a second time,
On motion of the Colonial Secretary, bill
committed, amended, and ordered to be read
third time on Friday, 6th November, 1846.
The Attorney-General moved the suspension
of the Standing Rules to enable the Police
Magistrates' and Native Exemption Ordinance
Repeal Bill.
Bill read a first and second time, and com-
mitted.
Mr. Domett moved, that the further con-
sideration of the Resident Magistrates Courts?
Ordinance be considered in Committee, on
Friday, 6th November, 1846.
The Attorney General gave notice that he
should move the first reading of the Cattle
Trespass Amendment Ordinance, on Friday
the 6th November.
The Colonial Treasurer gave notice that he
should move the third reading of the Appro-
priation Bill, on Friday, 6th November, 1846.
The Governor laid on the Table the several
Returns moved for by Mr. Kennedy on the
12th October.
Ordered, that said Returns be printed.
Council adjourned at half-past three o'clock
until two o'clock on Friday, the 6th Novem-
ber, 1846.
