known as Lambton Quay, extending from a
certain tree, to which the fence of claimant was
formerly attached, about 350 feet in a northerly
direction along the beach just above high water
mark, and from the beach to the bank in the
rear of the same.

Rauhea Takiaka, and Patekawi, chiefs of
the Kekori tribe, by claimant.

5,000, Five thousand acres, more or less, si-
tuate at Waihou, (being a portion of a grant of
40,000 acres originally made by Madi Wai,
Patu One, and Nènè, through the medium of
the Rev. Thomas Kendall, on the 7th August,
1822); bounded on the front by the River
Waihou, on the sides by certain trees, and on
rear by the Horiè Road.

chief Nènè (Tomati Waka), in the year
1837.

towards the Waima, by a creek adjoining the
claim of Mr. Fishwick, and by certain land
marks on the rear.

from the native chief Tao-Nui.

Hokianga, claimant.

3,000, Three thousand acres, more or less,
being a tract of land commencing from a creek,
called O Kariri, on the Waima, extending in
river frontage to Papaureure, otherwise called
Papaniea; the frontage being about 71 chains,
passing, at right angles, the corner of Tiro's
pah. From the water called Manginaugina,
through a swamp called O Kukuea, crossing a
large creek called Te Werahi, to a bush called
O Tira Hapè, and to another bush called Ti
Whati Whatianga. Turning to the N. W. by
W. to a place called Nga Puke Hongai, in the
middle of the horse road, which it follows to
Kau Were Pahauhaw, to a place called O Tai
Parea, to Piha and to O Rangia; to the south-
ward to Ta Whiti, Te Rito, Te Watu, Pohapu,
O Tihi, Whangai Kohi, Te Kowhe, Piki Wha-
hine, Whitinga Tera, and to Karari, on the
river Waima.

NOTICE OF HEARING.

Land Claims' Office, Te Aro,
Wellington, Port Nicholson, May 23, 1843.

I, WILLIAM SPAIN, a Commissioner ap-
pointed for investigating and determining
Titles and Claims to Land in the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby give notice that I shall pro-
ceed to investigate the under-mentioned Claims
at my Office in Wellington aforesaid, on Thurs-
day, the 8th day of June next, and following
days, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon.

Claimants are reminded that the fee of £5
must be paid to me before the investigation of
any Claim, or any opposition thereto.

Case No. 257 (d)—HENRY MOREING, of Wel-
fington, Esquire, claimant.

2000, Two thousand acres, more or less,
being all that piece of land known as the Island
of Mana, or Warspike Island, in Cook's Straits,
about 14 miles S. W. of the Island of Kapiti or
Entry Island.

Alleged to have been purchased on the 25th
April, 1832, from the native chiefs Raupa-
raha, Rangihaeata, and Nohuroa, by Messrs.
John Bell, Alexander Davidson, and Ar-
chibald Mosman.

Alexander Davidson having, it is stated,
transferred his interest in the above land to
John Bell, the present applicant claims in virtue
of a conveyance from Thomas Bell, (as father
and heir-at-law of the said John Bell, since de-
ceased) of the said Thomas Bell's interest or
share, and also in virtue of an indenture of sale
from the said Archibald Mosman, of his re-
maining third share and interest in the above
land.

Consideration—merchandize to the value of
£500, paid by instalments.

Conveyance—deed, dated as above, in favour
of J. Bell, Davidson, and Mosman.

Deeds to claimant from Thomas Bell, Archi-
bald Mosman, and others.

Case No. 453.—JAMES HEBERLY, of Wellington,
master mariner, claimant.

Land situate at Port Nicholson, Waikanea,
Taranaki, and other places in New Zealand.

Claimed as belonging to the children of the
said James Heberly, in right of his Native wife.
