TENDERS will be received at this Office, until the 6th of March next, from persons desirous to Contract for the Printing from and after the 1st of April next, of the New Zealand Government Gazette, Proceedings of Council, Forms, &c.

The specifications of work to be done and the terms of Contract, may be seen on application at this Office.

Land Commissioner’s Office,
Auckland, February 21, 1848.

HENRY MATSON, a Commissioner appointed for examining and reporting on all Claims to Compensation preferred according to the provisions of an Ordinance, Session 7, No. 22, intituled—"An Ordinance to authorise compensation in Colonial Debentures to be made to certain Claimants to land in the colony of New Zealand," do hereby notify that I will investigate the undermentioned Claims at the Council Chamber, at 11 o’clock, a.m., on Wednesday, the 1st proximo.

The cases will be heard in the order in which they stand in the following list, and all parties interested, are hereby summoned to be in attendance with their documents and witnesses.

Case No. 54—Pre-emption certificate, No. 233—Peter Imlay, of Twofold Bay, settler.

990 acres. Nine hundred and ninety acres of land, situated on the Manukau, bounded on the west by land belonging to the chief Wetere, on the east by land purchased from the Natives, by Mr. W. Lewis, and by land granted to Mr. Fairburn, on the south by the river Papakura, and the settlement Pukaki, and on the north by Manukau.

Alleged to have been purchased from the Native chiefs Kawau, Moana, Keene, Rewiti, Tinama.

Consideration—One Horse, One Saddle and Bridle, five Double-barrelled Guns, two single barrelled Guns, one pair of Trousers.


Case No. 55—Pre-emption certificate, No. 196—Thomas Jackson.

A small Island, situated at Manukau, called Puketutu.

Alleged to have been purchased from the Native chiefs Kawau, Keene, Te Hira, and Paora.

Consideration—£5, sterling, and ten Blankets.


Case No. 56—Pre-emption certificate, No. 208—Frederick S. Pennington, of Auckland, Surveyor.

200 acres. Two hundred acres of land, situated at the head of Coromandel Harbour, and bounded on two sides by land belonging to Mr. William Webster, and on the other side by the sea.

Alleged to have been purchased from the Native chief Te Aratuki.

Consideration—One Boat, Sails and oars, One Saddle and Bridle, Cash £4.


Case No. 57—Pre-emption certificate, No. 101—William Harkin and James Eagan.

200 acres. Two hundred acres of land situated on Lucas or Okahukura creek, on the river Waimata, the said land being bounded on one side by the aforesaid creek, on another side by the land about being purchased by Mr. G. Partridge, and on the other side by a Native reserve, belonging to the chief Kaipaka, the back boundary being a small streamlet.

Alleged to have been purchased from the Native chiefs Haimona, Taipari, and others.

Consideration—1 Saddle, 1 Bridle, 3 cloth Cloaks 6 Blankets, 1 Pilot Coat.


Case No. 58—Pre-emption certificate, No. 109—Thomas Cleghorn, of Auckland, settler.

500 acres. Five hundred acres of land, situated on the river Wairoa, bounded on the north by a creek the Native name of which is Ohuri, on the west by the river Wairoa, on the east by a ridge of hills the Native name of which is Ohu-rei, and on the south by land belonging to the chiefs Te Tara and Mahura of the tribe Ngati Tai.

Alleged to have been purchased from the Native chiefs Te Tupe, Makuru, and Honetana.

Consideration—1 Mare, 1 Saddle, 1 Bridle, 1 Double-barrelled Gun, 2 Muskets, 1 Cloth Cloak, 1 superfine cloth Coat, 1 do. pair of Trousers, 2 cloth Caps, £5 cash.
