IN conformity with the provisions of the Gold Mining Lease Regulations, published in the New Zealand Gazette, no. 15, of 1866, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a LEASE for Gold Mining Purposes of the Crown Land, within the Nelson South-West Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz:—

All that Block of Land, containing Sixteen Acres, more or less, situate in the Buller District, about five and a-half miles up the Waimangaroa river, on the south bank, formerly applied for by John Martin.

The Lease to be granted to the Pioneer Quartz Mining Company (Registered), Joseph Paul, Manager.

WILLIAM BIRD is hereby authorised under the Provisions of Section XIII of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to keep a FERRY BOAT on the Lagoon, near the Totara River, or Saltwater Creek, within the Nelson South-west Goldfields, on the following conditions, for twelve months from this date, and to charge one shilling for each person crossing in the said boat:—

That the said WILLIAM BIRD shall provide and keep on the Lagoon a good safe boat and a competent person always in attendance to ferry persons across.

That Government Officers, including road overseers, laborers, and postmen, when on duty shall be ferried across the said river free of charge.

This protection extends one mile on each bank of the Lagoon from its junction with the Totara.

The said WILLIAM BIRD is also authorised to charge the undermentioned tolls for twelve months from this date on the track commencing from the junction of the Totara river with the Lagoon and running for a mile and-a-half through the bush in an east by north direction towards Addison's Flat subject to the following conditions:—

That the track shall be kept in good repair by the said WILLIAM BIRD during the continuance of this protection.

That horses used on Government service, and foot passengers shall be allowed to use the track free of charge.

THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified that a Writ, issued for the Election of a Member of the Provincial Council for the District of Buller, has been returned with a certificate to the effect that

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Protection for the Brighton and St. Kilda Tramway, granted to WILLIAM COURTNEY on the 21st May, 1867, is transferred to RODY SLATTERY, subject to the following conditions, viz:—

That the line shall be available to the public for horse traffic, free of charge, from and after this date.

IN pursuance of the power in me vested by the 2nd Section of the "Vaccination Act, 1863," I hereby appoint the undermentioned gentlemen to be Medical Practitioners under the said Act, for the districts in the Province of Nelson, hereinafter respectively specified, viz:—

Nelson—WILLIAM WESTBROOKE SQUIRES.
Waimea East—FREDERICK AGUSTUS LAKING.
Waimea West and Waimea South—THOMAS OLDHAM.
Motueka—JOHN STEELE PARK.
Takaka—JAMES TILEY.

THE following Sections of "The Vaccination Act, 1863," are published for general information.

Children to be Vaccinated within six months of birth.

III.—The parent of every unvaccinated child born in New Zealand after the 1st day of March, 1864, shall within six calender months after the birth of such child, take or cause to be taken, the said child to a Medical Practitioner, or to the Medical Officer appointed for the district within which the said child is resident, for the purpose of being vaccinated, and the said Medical Officer so appointed shall there upon or as soon as after it may properly be done, vaccinate the said child.
