Nelson, 22nd January, 1869.
SAMUEL JOHN LORING is hereby authorised, under the provisions of Section XIII of "the Goldfields Act, 1866," to keep a Ferry Boat on the Totara river, and charge Tolls until the 31st December, 1869, as per schedule, on the following conditions:-

That a competent Ferryman be always in attendance, with a good safe boat and proper rope for crossing horses.

That all Government Officers, including road overseers, laborers, and postmen, when on duty, shall be ferried across the said river free of charge.
This protection shall not be transferred without the consent in writing of the Warden of the District.
The Warden of the District shall, on being satisfied that the Ferry service is not conducted in a proper and efficient manner, and in accordance with the above conditions, have power to suspend the operation of this protection until the matter of complaint be removed.

IN conformity with the provisions of the Gold Mining Lease Regulations, published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 15, of 1866, it is hereby notified that it is intended to GRANT LEASES FOR GOLD MINING PURPOSES of the Crown Lands, within the District of the Nelson South-West Goldfields, hereinafter described, viz:-

A Block of Land, containing Ten Acres, more or less, situate on the Charleston Flat, Brighton Road, applied for by Cornelius O'Connor for the Independent Company.

A Block of Land, containing Three Acres, more or less, situate on the Fenian Flat, Charleston, applied for by James O'Keefe for the Munster Mining Company.

A Block of Land, containing Ten Acres, more or less, situate on the Flat fronting the next Bay to Constant Bay, North of Charleston, applied for by Bernard Cunningham, Alexander Quinn, and Patrick Daly, for the Three Friends Company.
