I, OSWALD CURTIS, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, by virtue of the power and authority enabling me in that behalf do hereby make the following regulations for regulating the management of the GOVERNMENT WHARF or JETTY, at Motueka, and do hereby notify and declare that the undermentioned Rates, Dues, and Charges, will be levied at the said WHARF, on and after the 7th day of September, next:—
REGULATIONS.
- The Lessee or a man to be provided by him shall assist in making fast or casting off all vessels coming alongside or departing from the wharf, except on Sundays.
- The Lessee shall at his own expense, provide and keep one good and proper Lamp, (Red Light) at such place upon the Wharf as shall be fixed upon for that purpose by the Provincial Engineer, properly lighted from sunset to sunrise, every night.
- No Boats or Vessels of any kind, shall be allowed to be made fast to the Steps or Landing-Place.
- No Vessels to be hauled off the Wharf, without giving due notice thereof to the Wharfinger.
- The Master of any Vessel hauling alongside the Wharf shall, if required, lay out an Anchor or Anchors, (well buoyed) as directed by the Wharfinger, and shall also make fast to the Wharf as directed by the Wharfinger.
- Masters of Vessels to slack down any Bower, or Stream Chain, or any Warp or Line, or get in any Anchor, or Rig in any Boom, Strike any Yard or Topmast, or Top any Yard, or Furl or Lower any Sail, when ordered so to do by the Wharfinger.
- No Vessels to be Fumigated or Smoked for the extermination of vermin, while lying alongside the Wharf.
- The Master or Owner of any Vessel shall move his Vessel from the Wharf when required so to do by the Wharfinger.
- No goods shall be allowed to remain upon the Wharf so as to impede the Landing or Shipping of other goods.
- Cargo may be discharged from any Ship lying outside over and across the deck of any Ship lying alongside the Wharf.
- The Wharfinger shall be responsible for all goods delivered to his charge.
- The Wharfinger shall, when requested by the Owner, place all goods upon the Wharf in the Warehouse, provided there shall be sufficient room therein.
- No Charge shall be made, for Passengers using the Wharf.
- No Person except the Wharfinger, or a person to be authorised by him shall put out or interfere with any Lamp upon the Wharf.

THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified, that by the Harbor and Quarantine Regulations, for the Ports of New Zealand, which come into force on the 1st September next, every person who shall be in charge of any Vessel or Boat, whether decked or undecked, plying for Hire in any part of the Colony, shall obtain from the Superintendent of the Province, in which the Vessel or Boat is intended to ply, a License to ply for Hire, and every Boat used for the purpose of carrying Passengers, Cargo, Ballast, or Water Tanks, must also be duly Licensed.
The SUPERINTENDENT also directs it to be notified that he has appointed
JAMES S. CROSS, HARBOR-MASTER, and
JAMES P. LOW, SECOND PILOT,
to be Inspectors of Boats for the Port of Nelson; and
SAMUEL A. LEECH, and
FRANCIS HARRIS,
to be Inspectors of Boats for the Port of Westport;
and no License can be issued for any Boat until a Certificate from the Inspectors has been granted.

IN accordance with the Provisions of "The Marine Act, 1867," and the Harbor and Quarantine Regulations, for the Ports of New Zealand, I, OSWALD CURTIS, Superintendent of the Province of Nelson, hereby fix the undermentioned FEES for Licenses to be Paid by Waterman, Masters, Boatmen, and others employed in working Boats, plying for Hire at the Ports of Nelson and Westport; and also the FARES to be charged by Licensed Waterman in Licensed Passengers Boats, at the said Ports, on and after the 1st day of September next, viz:—
