HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to
be notified, in accordance with the pro-
visions of an Act of the Superintendent and
Provincial Council of Nelson, Session II., No.
5, intituled "An Ordinance to provide for the
Protection of Roads," that it is intended to
proclaim that the provisions of the third clause
of the above-mentioned Ordinance shall come
into operation in the following district, viz.:—
The Hundred of Wakapuaka;
as the said Hundred is defined in a Proclama-
tion of his Excellency the Officer administering
the Government, dated at Auckland, on the
16th day of November, 1854, published in the
New Zealand Government Gazette of the 17th
of November, 1854, No. 38.

I, THE undersigned, ALFRED DOBSON,
of the Town of Nelson, in the Province of Nel-
son, Commissioner of Public Works, hereby give
Notice, that I intend to APPLY to two or more
Justices of the Peace having jurisdiction in the said
Province, at a meeting to be held on MONDAY,
the Second day of June now next, at the Court House,
Nelson, for an ORDER for STOPPING UP and
DIVERTING the UNDERMENTIONED ROADS.
And I hereby give further Notice, that I will, on or
before the Nineteenth day of this present April, cause
Survey Plans of the respective Roads proposed to
be stopped up, and of the respective Roads proposed to
be substituted for the same, together with Books of
Reference, containing the names of the owners, lessees,
and occupiers of the lands through which the respec-
tive new Roads are intended to pass, and Estimates
of the expense of the respective works, to be deposited
with the Clerk to the Magistrates, and with the Con-
stables of the respective districts in or nearest to
which the said Roads are respectively situated,
namely, with Mr. Thomas Fagan, of Nelson, for the
town of Nelson; with Mr. Thomas Andrews, of Wai-
mea South, for the district of Waimea South; with
Mr. George Walker, of Waimea West, for the district
of Waimea West; and with Mr. John Boyes, of Mo-
tueka, for the district of Motueka :—
1.—To stop up part of a certain Road, in the town
of Nelson, abutting on land granted to Matthew
Richmond, Esq., and on Sections Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, commencing at the Cemetery,
and proceeding about 17 chains in an east-north-
east direction, and terminating at the east end
of the footpath adjoining Section No. 9. Also to
stop up part of a certain other Road in the said
town of Nelson, branching out of the aforesaid
road, and abutting on Sections Nos. 4, 5, 6, 7,
and 8, commencing about the middle of Section
No. 4, and proceeding about 8 chains in a north
direction, and terminating at the north side of
Section No. 8, save and except such portions of
the above-mentioned roads as are included in
the proposed substituted roads herein-after men-
tioned :
And to substitute in the place thereof a certain
other Road in the said town of Nelson, com-
mencing at the south side of the said Cemetery,
and proceeding through the said Cemetery and
through Section No. 1 about 7 chains in a north
direction, with a width of 50 links, thence con-
tinuing through Sections Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
and 7, about 11 chains in an east-north-east
direction, with a width of 50 links, thence con-
tinuing through Section No. 8, and through
land granted to Edward William Stafford, Esq.,
about 5 1/2 chains in an east-north-east direction,
with a width of 90 links, and terminating at the
corner of the existing fence opposite the east end
of the aforesaid footpath adjoining Section No.
9; also a certain other road in the said town of
Nelson, branching out of the last-mentioned road
commencing in Section No. 5, and proceeding
through Sections Nos. 5, 6, 7, and 8, about 7
chains in a north direction, with a width of 50
links, and terminating at the north side of Section
No. 8. Also to open a certain other road, 50
links in width, through Sections Nos. 10, 11, and
12, commencing at the south side of Section No.
11, proceeding about 4 1/2 chains in a north
direction, and terminating at the north-west
corner of Section No. 12.
2.—To stop up part of a certain Road in the dis-
trict of Waimea South, abutting on Sections
Nos. 91, 91, and IX., commencing at the road
on the north side of Section No. VII., and
proceeding about 145 chains in a westerly
direction, to the old course of the Wai-iti
river, and terminating at the road on the south-
west side of Section No. IX. Also to stop up
part of a certain other Road, branching out of
the aforesaid road, commencing at the Wai-iti
river and proceeding about 40 chains in a south-
east direction between Section IX. and Sections
Nos. 91 and 89, and terminating at a cross road
leading from the Wai-iti river to the hills :
And to substitute in the place thereof a certain
other Road in the said district, 60 links in width,
commencing at the east corner of Section No. 91,
and proceeding through Section No. VII. about
