✨ Marlborough Proclamations and Gold Mining Leases
PROCLAMATION
To be rated in respect of property in such Borough, by proclamation, divide such Borough into three separate wards by such names, and with such boundaries respectively, as shall by such Proclamation be assigned to the same.
And whereas a Petition, signed by one-fourth of the persons liable to be rated in respect of property within the Borough of Blenheim, in the Province of Marlborough, praying that the said Borough may be divided into Wards, has been received by me:
Now therefore I, Arthur Penrose Seymour, the Superintendent of the Province of Marlborough do by this Proclamation divide the said Borough into three separate Wards, to be called respectively “The North Ward,” “The East Ward,” and “The West Ward,” the boundaries whereof shall be as follows, that is to say:
The North Ward.
Bounded towards the North by a Public Road forming the Northern boundary of Sections 51 and 50 Omaka from the North Western Corner of said Section 51 to the Opawa River; thence towards the East by the Opawa River to the boundary line between sections 47 and 24 Opawa, thence by that line to the Opawa River; thence towards the South by the Opawa and Omaka Rivers to the Western boundary of Section 3 Omaka; and thence towards the West by the Western boundary of said Section 3 and the Western boundary of said section 51 to the starting point.
The East Ward.
Bounded towards the North by the Opawa and Omaka Rivers from the North Eastern corner of Section 46 Opawa to the Omaka Bridge; thence by Alfred-street to Market Place; thence towards the West by Market Place to the Maxwell Road; thence by the Maxwell Road to the Southern boundary of Section 3 Omaka; thence towards the South by the Southern boundaries of Sections 3 and 1 Omaka to the South Eastern corner of said Section 1; thence by a Public Road along the Eastern boundary of said Section 1 to the South Western corner of Section 46 Opawa; thence by the Southern boundary of said Section 46 by to its South Eastern corner; thence towards the East by the Eastern boundary of said Section 46 to the Opawa River.
The West Ward.
Bounded towards the North by the Omaka River from the Western boundary of Section 3 Omaka to the Omaka Bridge; thence towards the South by Alfred-street to Market Place; thence towards the East by Market Place to the Maxwell Road; thence by the Maxwell Road to the Southern boundary of Section 3 Omaka; thence towards the South by the Southern boundary of said Section 3 to its South Western corner: and thence towards the West by the Western boundary of said Section 3 to the Omaka River.
Given under my hand and issued under the Seal of the Province of Marlborough, at Blenheim, this Twentieth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

In accordance with Clause XXIX. of “The Gold Fields Act, 1866,” it is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Honor the Superintendent to issue, at the expiration of two months from this date, by virtue of the powers delegated to him in that behalf, Gold Mining Leases of the undermentioned blocks of Land within the limits of the Pelorus Gold Field, to the following persons, namely:
William Douslin, George Robertson, Eliza Heathwood, and James Gorrie, under the name or style of the “Douslin Gold Mining Company.”—Area of land 16 acres, situate on the range near the head of Maori Gully, Pelorus.
William Douslin, George Robertson, Eliza Heathwood, and James Gorrie, under the name or style of the “Robertson Gold Mining Company No. 1 North.”—Area of land 16 acres, situate on Northern end adjoining application made by the “Douslin Gold Mining Company.”
William Douslin, George Robertson, Eliza Heathwood, and James Gorrie, under the name or style of the “Havelock Gold Mining Company No. 1 South.”—Area of land 16 acres, situate near the head of Maori Gully, and adjoining application made by the “Douslin Gold Mining Company” on Southern end, Pelorus.
