Educational District Proclamation




PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, intituled "The Education Ordinance, 1871," it is among other things enacted that whenever the Board of Education shall call by advertisement a public meeting of owners and occupiers of land and householders in any district, and such meeting shall declare by the votes of the majority of the persons present (being such owners and occupiers of land and householders as aforesaid), that they are willing that the said district be formed into an Educational District under the provisions of the said Ordinance, and shall declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District; the Superintendent shall, as soon as conveniently may be, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, declare such district to be an Educational District under the said Ordinance; and such district shall thereupon become an Educational District accordingly:

And whereas at meetings duly called as aforesaid, the owners and occupiers of land and householders in the several districts specified in the Schedule hereunto annexed, did by the votes of the majority there present, declare that they were willing that the said districts respectively should be formed into Educational Districts, and did further declare their willingness to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an Educational District as provided in the said Ordinance:

Now therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance of the power in me vested by the said in part recited Ordinance, do hereby proclaim that the districts specified in the Schedule hereunto annexed shall be Educational Districts within the meaning of the said Ordinance.

Given at Christchurch, this ninth day of January, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

TAI TAPU DISTRICT.

Commencing at the north-eastern corner of section 1432; thence westerly along the road to the north of that section to the River Halswell; thence northerly up the said river and the eastern boundary of the Lincoln Educational District to a point in the said boundary west of the south-west corner of section 4980; thence in a straight line to such corner; thence easterly along the road to the south of this section and a line in continuation thereof to the road to the west of section 951; thence southerly along this latter road to the River Halswell; thence in a straight line to Cass’ Peak; thence following the ridge of hills southerly to Cooper’s Knobs; thence following the south-eastern boundary of section 1060 to Gerkin’s road; thence along the said road to a point due south of Trig. Pole L14; thence in a straight line to the southern corner of section 1651; thence along the southern boundary of the said section to the reserve for road and drain purposes and thence north-easterly along the said reserve to the starting point.

KAIAPOI ISLAND DISTRICT.

Bounded on the north by the north branch of the River Waimakariri; on the north, north-east, and east by the new cutting, and on the south by the main branch of the said River.

WEST EYRETON DISTRICT.

Commencing at the north-western corner of section 13612; thence southerly along the road to the north-east of that section to the Oxford Tram road; thence easterly along the Tram road to the western boundary of the Mandeville Plains Educational District; thence southerly along the said boundary and along the road to the west of section 9955 to the Eyre road south; thence westerly along the latter road to the western boundary of Run No. 10862; thence northerly along the said boundary and along the western boundary of Run No. 203 C.L.2 to the road to the north-east of section 13612; and thence southerly along the said road to the starting point.

LITTLE RIVER DISTRICT.

Commencing at the northernmost corner of reserve 250; thence to the south-eastern corner of section 3298; thence westerly along its southern boundary and a straight line in continuation thereof to the Kaikatoa road; thence northerly along the said road to its junction with the Hukahukaturoa Hill road; thence in a straight line to the north-western corner of section 4265; thence along the northern boundary of this section and of section 4264, and a straight line in continuation thereof to the eastern boundary of reserve 222; thence in a straight line to Saddle Peak; and thence in a straight line to the starting point.

PAPANUI DISTRICT.

Commencing at a point on the southern bank of the River Styx where the River is crossed by the North road; thence easterly along the said bank to the road to the north of section 1141; thence easterly along the said road to the road to the east of the said section; thence southerly along the latter road to the road to the south of section 1134; thence westerly along the latter road to the north bank of the said River; thence northerly along the said bank to the starting point.
