being, from time to time to change or alter the boundaries of any and every Educational District proclaimed under the authority of the said Ordinance.
And whereas on the seventh day of September, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-one, the Halswell, Cust, and Lower Heathcote Educational Districts were proclaimed under the authority of the said Ordinance. And whereas it is desirable to alter the boundaries of the said Districts.
Now therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the Province aforesaid, do hereby, in pursuance of the powers so vested in me, proclaim that the boundaries of the said Educational Districts shall be as follows:β
Halswell District.
Commencing at the south-eastern corner of section 198 on the Lincoln Road, following along the north-eastern boundary thereof to the water-course on the south side of section 846; following westerly along that water-course to the north-east corner of section 1246; following along the south-eastern and part of the south-western boundary thereof to the eastern corner of section 1511; following along the south-eastern boundary of that section to the southern corner; thence following a right line to the road at the north-west side of section 867; following south-westerly along the said road and the north-west boundary of section 952 to the dry river bed of the River Halswell; bounded on the westward by the Prebbiston District and also by a line drawn from the south-west corner of section 1106 to the source of the stream forming the eastern boundary of section 1882; on the south by a line drawn from a point in the last mentioned line due west of the south-west corner of section 4980 to the said corner; thence easterly along the road to the south of this section and a line in continuation thereof to the road to the west of section 951; thence southerly along the latter road to the River Halswell; thence in a straight line to Cassβ Peak; thence following the ridge of hills to the top of Hoon Hay Valley; on the east by the eastern side of the said valley to the south-western corner of section 1944; and thence by a straight line to the south-eastern corner of section 198 on the Lincoln Road.
District; thence following such boundary southward until it meets the road on the south side of section 4986; thence westward along this road to the road to the north-east of section 13,612; thence northerly along the latter road to the western boundary of Run No. 203 C.L. 2; thence following this boundary northward to the Cust Main Drain Reserve; thence in a straight line in continuation of the said boundary to the south bank of the River Ashley; thence easterly along this bank to a point due north of the road to the west of section 7677; thence in a straight line to such road; thence continuing southerly along the same road to the south-western corner of section 7674; thence easterly along the southern boundary of this section and of sections 7673, 7095, 7999, and 7253, to the road to the east of the latter section; thence southerly along such road to the road to the south of section 5798; thence easterly along the latter road to the north-western corner of section 8185; thence southerly along the western boundary of this latter section to the road to the south of such section; thence easterly along such road to the River Cust, and easterly along that river to the starting point.
Cust District.
Commencing at the point where the road to the west of section 3811 touches the River Cust; thence southerly along such road to the Harewood road by Rangiora; thence westerly along this latter road to the eastern boundary of the Cust Road Board District;
Lower Heathcote District.
Commencing at the junction of the Christchurch and Lyttelton Railway with the road to the west of section 89; thence southerly along the said road to the River Heathcote; thence following down that river to the bridge at the Ferry; thence following the estuary of that river to the north-eastern corner of section 15; thence along the north-eastern boundary of that section and of sections 27, 28, 34, 39, 42, 131, 103, 101, 99, 88, and 84; thence southerly following the road on the north-west side of the last mentioned section to the north-eastern corner of section 69; following westerly along the northern boundary thereof to the Town Belt; following southerly along the said Belt at the Ferry Road; thence south-easterly along the Ferry Road to the road to the east of section 62; thence southerly along the latter road to the Christchurch and Lyttelton railway; thence south-easterly along the railway to the starting point.
Given at Christchurch, this ninth day of January, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.
