Prebbleton School ... April 22 ... Present, 20 ... Considerably improved. But the Teacher wants energy; (can drill, but has not commenced).
Templeton School ... Same day ... Present, 22 ... Middling. The progress in elementary knowledge is not yet commensurate with that of similar schools.
St. Albans School ... April 23 ... Present, 51 ... Considerably Improved. Instruction in Military drill has commenced under Mr Long. The singing has been well taught.
OF THE CANDIDATES EXAMINED:—
Spencer A. Perceval for the Heathcote Valley School. A more experienced Schoolmaster is required. Mr. Perceval might attempt a more Elementary School.
Howard Charles Jacobson, has been certified to be competent for the charge of an Ordinary School.
William Francis Morton, has been certified to be competent for the charge of an Elementary Country School.
Thomas Oldfield, has been certified to be competent for a similar appointment.
Charles Allsop, has been certified to be competent for the Mastership of the North Road School.
Morean Amy, Candidate for the Mastership of the Flaxton School, has been certified to be competent for that appointment.
The papers of the above Candidates are for the most part very creditable, and better than the usual average.
The details of the School examinations are entered in the Journal.

SIR,—I have the honour to submit a Summary Report on the Schools and Candidates examined during the month, also a Report upon the Candidates for Junior Scholarships according to the result of their preliminary examination.
OF THE SCHOOLS EXAMINED:—
Woodend ... May 4 ... Present 35 ... Attendance reduced by Hooping-cough. Attainments satisfactory. Of the Registers missing, only some had been returned by the former Master.
