INSPECTOR’S SUMMARY REPORT OF FOR THE MONTH.

To the Chairman of the Board.

Sir,—I have the honour to submit a Summary Report on the Schools examined during the month.

Halswell School ... November 21 ... Present, 81 ... Very Satisfactory except as to the reading of the lower classes, below the first.

Harewood Road School ... November 27 ... Present, 17 ... Improving.

Ferry Road School (Lower Heathcote) ... November 30 ... Much improved to the constant assistance of a mistress during the last three months.

R. Catholic Boys ... November 30 ... Present 40 ... Satisfactory.

R. Catholic Girls ... Same day ... Present 68 ... In excellent order, not further inspected.

Kaiapoi Church School ... December 2 ... Present, 86 ... Satisfactory.

Riccarton School ... December 3 ... Present, 58 ... The attendance and efficiency of the School are increasing; but with one or two exceptions in each class the reading, throughout the School, is defective as to fluency and punctuation.

Avonside School ... December 4 ... Present, 38 ... Improving, but very slowly.

St. Luke’s School ... December 7 ... Present 74 ... Much Improved.

Flaxton School ... December 8 ... Present, 16 ... Sickness prevalent, out of 32.

Fernside School ... Same day ... Present, 38 ... Satisfactory.

Harewood School (near Oxford) ... December 9 ... Present, 35 ... Improving.

Oxford School ... Same day ... Present, 36 ... The Bible knowledge, reading and spelling were very imperfect; the interruption by sickness may account for it, but there should be a very decided improvement before next examination.

Cust District School ... Same day ... Present, 29 ... Improving.

Rangiora School ... December 10 ... Present, 53 ... Satisfactory.

Woodend School ... December 11 ... Present, 55 ... Improving.

Governor’s Bay North ... December 15 ... Present, 23 ... Attainments satisfactory. Register less so. School section not fenced in; much inconvenience results.

Upper Heathcote School ... December 17 ... Present, 33 ... Improving.
