SUMMARY REPORT OF INSPECTOR OF SCHOOLS.

To the Honorable H. J. TANCRED, Chairman.

Sir,—I have the honour to submit a Summary Report on the schools examined during the month.

Eighteen of the Ordinary Schools, including 797 children, have been examined.

OF THE ABOVE SCHOOLS—

One, the Christchurch St. Andrew’s School, is highly creditable as to the result of the examination.

Nine are Satisfactory.

Five are Improved.

Three are Moderate.

THE SCHOOLS EXAMINED.

Christchurch St. Andrews Nov. 4 ... Present, 61 ... Highly creditable.

Christchurch St. Luke’s Nov. 5 ... Present, 68 ... Moderate.

Lower Heathcote (Ferry Road) Nov. 6 ... Present, 21 ... Moderate. Attendance very small for such a populous district.

Riccarton Nov. 7 ... Present, 47 ... Improved, as to attendance and attainments, &c.

St. Michael’s Nov. 8 ... Present, 133 ... Satisfactory. An artesian well has been sunk, and further improvements in the buildings and premises are contemplated.

Kaiapoi Roman Catholic School Nov. 12 ... Present, 12 ... New Teacher.

Kaiapoi Wesleyan School Nov. 12 ... Present, 38 ... Improved.

Papanui Wesleyan Nov. 13 ... Present, 26 ... Improved.

North Road Nov. 14 ... Present, 29 ... Improved.

Harewood Road Nov. 18 ... Present, 24 ... Satisfactory.

Fernside School Aug. 19 ... Present, 37 ... Satisfactory.

Cust Valley Aug. 19 ... Present, 27 ... Satisfactory.

Oxford Church of England School Aug. 20 ... Present, 42 ... Satisfactory.

Oxford and Harewood School Aug. 20 ... Present, 30 ... Satisfactory.

Eyreton School Aug. 21 ... Present, 20 ... Satisfactory, children very neat and orderly, but less cheerful than at most schools.
