SUMMARY REPORT OF INSPECTOR OF SCHOOLS.
To the Honorable H. J. TANCRED, Chairman.
Sir,—I have the honour to submit a Summary Report on the schools examined during the month.
Ten Ordinary Schools, including 506 children, have been examined during the month.
OF THE ABOVE SCHOOLS—
Five are Satisfactory as to result of examination.
Three, Improved or improving.
Two, Tolerable.
One, Unsatisfactory.
THE SCHOOLS EXAMINED:
St. Albans ... Oct. 2 ... Present, 64 ... Improving.
Prebbleton ... Oct. 9 ... Present, 22 ... Much improved.
Courtney ... Oct. 10 ... Present, 13 ... Satisfactory.
Woodend ... Oct. 14 ... Present, 45 ... Improving.
Saltwater Creek ... Oct. 15 ... Present, 22 ... Tolerable. Defects are detailed in the Journal.
Leithfield ... Oct. 15 ... Present, 25 ... Unsatisfactory. Too drowsy. Greater energy and smartness are requisite. Defects are detailed in the Journal.
Ashley Bank ... Oct. 16 ... Present, 13 ... Tolerable. Attendance, small; attainments, satisfactory. The arrangement of the desks has been altered to one better adapted to Sunday Services than to class teaching and the maintenance of order.
Rangiora ... Oct. 17 ... Present, 53 ... Satisfactory. Junior classes much improved.
Christchurch, Wesleyan ... Oct. 23 ... Present, 144 ... Satisfactory.
Papanui, St. Paul’s ... Oct. 25 ... Present, 100 ... Satisfactory.
The particulars of each of the above examinations are fully detailed in the Journal.
F. G. Cotton and Henry Allison have been examined as candidates for any vacant appointment; and William Fleming has passed a successful examination as candidate for the mastership of the Leeston School—as per reports and certificates of Oct. 5th.
