REMARKS.

CHRISTCHURCH.

The weather during the month of December calls for very few remarks. From the 1st to the 8th it was very unsettled, with a considerable amount of rain, particularly on the 5th, when the amount of 1.238 inches was collected; so great a rainfall in one day has not occurred here for 11 months. A hot dry north-wester blew with violence on the 7th, followed by a showery day. A week’s very warm and almost cloudless weather then succeeded. The 15th was wet, the 18th, 20th, and 23rd showery, the intervening days fine, but in general cloudy. From the latter day to the close of the month the weather was again remarkably fine and clear, without being oppressively warm at any time.
