  1. Immigrants who have accepted service must leave the barracks without delay, and cannot be re-admitted.

  2. No Officer in the Immigration Department is permitted to engage Servants for other persons.

In the Matter of the Debtors’ and Creditors’ Act, 1862.

NOTICE is hereby given, that at the sitting of the Court under the above-named Act, on the 15th day of December, the further hearing of the undermentioned petitions was adjourned until the first sitting of the Court under the Act, after the expiration of fourteen days from this date, at the Court-house, Christchurch, at 11 a.m. :

CHARLES JOHN MARTIN, late of the Oriental, in High Street, Christchurch, Tobacconist and General Dealer. The (Creditor’s) petition of John Ward Shackleton against George Lumley, late of the Oriental aforesaid.

WILLIAM TUCKERMAN STEPHENS, of Avon Mill, near Papanui Road, Christchurch.

SEPTIMUS LANCELOT WORSLEY, now of Christchurch, but formerly of Wellington, Merchant, and some time trading with Wm. Wilson, under the style or firm of Worsley, Wilson and Co.

WILLIAM MERRITT, of Colombo Street South, and formerly of Manchester Street, Christchurch, Carter.

HARRY DANIEL MANNING, of Oxford Terrace, Christchurch, formerly trading in co-partnership with William Baines, as Mail Contractors, under the style or firm of Baines and Manning. Creditor’s petition (Edwin Cuff) against the co-partnership estate of Baines and Manning, Mail Contractors, at Christchurch and Timaru.

Notice is also given, that on the 10th day of December instant an ad interim order of sequestration of the estate and effects of GEORGE ARTHUR SMITH and CHARLES RAIKES, of Christchurch, trading under the name or style of Smith, Raikes and Company, Merchants, was granted on the petition of Messrs. Fox and Thompson, of London, England, by their Attorney, Charles Barrett, of Christchurch, gentleman, and the hearing of the said petition was fixed for the said first sittings of the Court after the expiration of fourteen days from the date hereof, at the Court-house, Christchurch, at 11 a.m., and the said Charles Barrett was appointed Receiver.

Notice is also given, that on the 12th day of December instant an ad interim order of sequestration of the estate and effects of WILLIAM BAINES, of Timaru, formerly in co-partnership with Harry Daniel Manning aforesaid, and an ad interim order of protection from arrest, execution, or legal process, was granted to the said William Baines until further orders of the Court.

IN the matter of the Debtors’ and Creditors’ Act, 1862, and in the matter of the petition of WILLIAM BAINES, formerly of Timaru, in the Province of Canterbury, in the Colony of New Zealand, in co-partnership with Harry Daniel Manning, trading in the names of Baines and Manning as Mail Contractors and General Carriers, at Timaru and Christchurch, in the said Province of Canterbury, and late of Timaru aforesaid, Agent to Mail Contractors, but now a Prisoner for debt in the public gaol of Lyttelton, in the said Province of Canterbury.

In Chambers, this 12th day of December, 1863, upon the application of Mr. Slater, as Counsel for the said Petitioner William Baines, after reading the said petition purporting to be signed by the said Petitioner, as aforesaid, and also certain schedules, and therewith filed on the 1st day of December, pursuant to the said Act, Court being satisfied of the truth of the matters contained in the said petition, doth hereby grant an ad interim order of sequestration of the estate and effects of the said William Baines; and doth direct that the estate and effects of the said William Baines shall be taken and held by Henry Seager, of Christchurch, as Receiver under the said Act, hereby appointed by the Court, subject to such further order of the Court as may be made under or in pursuance of the provisions of this Act; and this Court doth hereby appoint the first day of the sitting of the Court under the said Act after the expiration of fourteen days from this date next, at eleven o’clock in the forenoon, for the hearing of such petition and the proofs of debts and claims of Creditors, at the Court-house, Christchurch aforesaid; and the Court doth also further order and grant an ad interim order of protection to protect the person and estate of the said William Baines from arrest, execution, or legal process until further orders of this Court.
