Land Reserves Notices




him by clause 19 of the Waste Land Regulations now in force within the Province of Canterbury, he has made the following Reserves of land, temporarily, until the next Session of the Provincial Council:—

No. 284, in red.—Six hundred and forty acres, more or less—all that block of land on the north bank of the Rakaia, bounded on the north-eastward by a road running parallel to the river and distant therefrom about half a mile, on the south-east by a line from the road to the river through Trigonometrical Station E 6 (Boundary Hill), on the south-westward by the Rakaia, and on the north-westward by homestead pre-emptive right on run No. 101, for the purposes of township.

No. 285, in red.—Six hundred and forty acres, more or less, exclusive of sections Nos. 3568, 3569 and 3570 (Rhodes), all that block of land on the south bank of the Rakaia, commencing about five miles from the beach (measured in a direct line), following up the river about 2½ miles, and back, on the average, half a mile parallel to the river, for the purposes of a township.

No. 286, in red.—Fifty acres, more or less, at the gorge of the Waitohi river, viz:—thirty acres between the road and the river, and twenty acres between the road and the hills, for the purpose of forming track to West Coast.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified, that the undermentioned reserves, made temporarily by him under the 19th clause of the Waste Land Regulations have been confirmed by the Provincial Council.

No. 264, in red.—Six hundred and forty acres, having one mile frontage on the south railway reserve, between 44th and 45th mile, and extending back south-easterly in a rectangular block one mile, subject to the reserve line of the South Road, for a supply of water and a resting place for stock.

No. 265, in red.—Four hundred and eighty-eight acres,—all that block of land in the Ashburton District, bounded on the north-east by the reserves for township and ferry on the south bank of the Rakaia, on the north-west and south-east by lines parallel to and half-a-mile distant from the line of railway, and on the south-west by a line drawn through the 87th mile peg on the said railway, at right angles to the north-western and south-eastern boundaries, for a town and railway reserve.

No. 266, in red.—Five acres, situate in the Ellesmere District, commencing at the western corner of Section 4583, on the railway reserve, thence south-westerly along the said reserve a distance of 10 chains, and running back south-easterly in a rectangular block a distance of five chains south-west of and adjoining the before-mentioned Section 4583, for a railway reserve.

No. 267, in red.—Forty-five acres, bounded on the south-east by the railway reserve, on the north-east and south-west by the high banks of the old river bed of the Selwyn, and on the north-west by a line parallel to and 10 chains distant from the before-mentioned railway reserve, for a railway reserve.

No. 268, in red.—Forty-four acres, situate in the Ellesmere District, bounded on the north-west by the railway reserve, on the north-east and south-west by the high banks of the old river bed of the Selwyn, and on the south-east by a line 10 chains from and parallel to the before-mentioned railway reserve, for railway purposes.

No. 269, in red.—Twelve acres, three roods, thirty-seven perches, situate at Timaru, bounded on the north by the south side of Brown-street, 720 links; on the east by the west side of Rose-street, 1820 links; on the south by the north side of Catherine-street, 700 links; and on the west by the western boundary of the town of Timaru; subject, nevertheless, to the boulevard along the town boundary, two chains wide, for a public garden and pleasure ground.

No. 270, in red.—Six acres, three roods, eight perches, in the Christchurch District, being bounded on the north-eastward by Section No. 3729, on the south-eastward by road by trigonometrical station C. 28, on the north-westward by Section 4252, and on the south-westward by Section 2704, for a public pound and Pound-keeper’s residence.

No. 271, in red.—One hundred and thirty-four acres, situate in the Mandeville District, on the Sand Hills, between Kaiapoi and the sea, being bounded on the north by a road to the beach a distance of 43 chains 10 links, on the east by a road along the edge of the Sand Hills, separating this reserve from Sections 2397, 2398, 2409, and 998, a distance altogether of about 81 chains 50 links, on the south by Section No. 1898 a distance of 45 chains, and on the west by another road along the edge of the Sand Hills, separating this from Section 320, a distance of about 32 chains; for a Volunteers’ practice ground.
