time, by Proclamation, declare that any or all of the parts of the said Act, numbered two, three, four, five, six and seven shall extend and apply to any Highway District constituted or to be constituted by or under any Provincial Act theretofore or there-after to be passed, or to the inhabitants, ratepayers, or governing body of any such District as the case may require, and upon such day as shall be fixed in and by any such Proclamation, the part or parts therein specified shall be in force in and as to such Highway District, or with regard to the inhabitants, ratepayers, or governing body of such District, as the case may require.
And whereas the Auckland Provincial Council have, by Resolution dated the eighteenth day of December, 1871, recommended me without delay, by Proclamation, to extend and apply the provisions of parts two, three, four, five, six, and seven, of the said Act to all the existing Highway Districts, of the Province.
Now therefore I, Thomas Bannatyne Gillies, Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, in pursuance and in exercise of the power and authority for that purpose vested in me, and upon the recommendation of the Auckland Provincial Council, do hereby declare that all of the parts of the said Highway Boards Empowering Act, 1871, numbered two, three, four, five, six, and seven, shall extend and apply to the several Highway Districts respectively specified in the Schedule hereunder, and shall be in force in and as to such Highway Districts respectively on and after the date of publication hereof.

PROCLAMATION.
By Thomas Bannatyne Gillies, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.
In pursuance of "The Highways Act, 1871," I do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the date hereof, the Public Ferries hereunder enumerated shall be under the control of the Poverty Bay District Board under the said Act, namely:—
WAIPAOA,
GISBORNE, and
TE ARAI,
In the District of Poverty Bay.
Given at Auckland, under my hand and the Public Seal of the said Province, this thirty-first day of October, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.

WAIPAOA FERRY.
- The undermentioned charges or fees, and no more, shall be levied upon persons crossing or using the Ferry:—
s. d.
For man going and returning same day ... 0 6
For man and horse going and returning same day ... 1 0
For man and cart-horse going and returning same day ... 2 0
For each horse extra ... 0 6
For man and dray and two bullocks ... 2 6
For each bullock extra ... 0 6
No charge to be made for load if taken off dray when crossing.
For horses or cattle driven, each ... 0 6
For foals or calves under six months ... 0 3
For sheep, pigs or goats, each ... 0 0½
If less than twenty, each ... 0 3
Man crossing and re-crossing in charge of flocks and herds to pay for one trip.
Goods at the rate of three shillings per ton measurement on the punt.
Goods at the rate of four shillings and sixpence per ton measurement if landed by Ferryman.

The above charges shall be levied from sunrise until one hour after sunset: double charges at any other time.

If return journey be made during the same day later than an hour after sunset, single day fare to be charged.

Persons travelling on Government Service, Road Board duty, and all Militiamen and Volunteers while on duty shall be exempt from payment of these charges.

Not more than six horses or cattle shall be taken at any one time.
GISBORNE FERRY.
- The undermentioned charges or fees, and no more, shall be levied upon persons crossing or using the Ferry:—
s. d.
For foot passengers each way ... 0 3
For passenger and horse each way ... 0 6
- The above charges shall be levied from 6 o'clock a.m. until 9 o'clock p.m.: double charges at any other time.
TE ARAI FERRY.
- The undermentioned charges or fees, and no more, shall be levied upon persons crossing or using the Ferry:—
s. d.
For foot passengers each way ... 0 3
For passenger and horse each way ... 0 6
- The above charges shall be levied from 6 o'clock a.m. until 9 o'clock p.m.: double charges at any other time.
