2nd. Strangers shall not have access to the Magazine without authority, and then only in the presence of the Magazine-keeper.

3rd. The Magazine-keeper shall, previous to receiving any barrel or other package of gunpowder, ascertain by a personal examination that every barrel or other package is perfectly tight and secure, and free from any possibility of an accident.

4th. Should any barrel or other package be discovered to be in an unsafe state, the owner must make every such barrel or package perfectly safe before the Magazine-keeper receives any such barrel or package in the Magazine.

5th. Loose or insecure barrels or packages of gunpowder shall not be permitted to be made secure within the precincts of the Magazine, nor shall barrels or packages be opened within the Magazine.

6th. The Magazine-keeper must be careful that every kind of friction is avoided in the removal or storage of barrels or packages, and that a sufficient space is allowed for circulation of air.

7th. The Magazine-keeper shall, as far as is practicable, keep the barrels and packages of the various owners together, and their distinguishing marks visible.

8th. Smoking, or fire of any kind shall, under no circumstance be permitted within the Magazine enclosure.

9th. Gunpowder shall not be taken from the Magazine without the necessary permits or Customs' license; powder for military purposes when placed in the Magazine for safe keeping being the only exception.

10th. The rates for storage shall be as follow:-
For every quarter-barrel, or parcel containing 25 lbs., one penny per week.
For every half-barrel, or parcel containing over 25 lbs. and less than 51 lbs., three half-pence per week.
For every barrel or parcel containing over 56 lbs. and less than 101 lbs., threepence per week.
Every barrel or parcel containing more than 100 lbs. should be charged one penny extra for every additional 25 lbs. or part of 25 lbs.

THE following Table of Rates, Dues and Charges made by the Auckland Harbour Board, and approved by the Superintendent, is published for general information.

And it is hereby notified that the said Rates, Dues and Charges shall come into force on the first day of October, 1872.

Table of Rates, Dues and Charges made in pursuance of powers vested in the Auckland Harbour Board, to be paid for the use of the Wharves, Piers, Jetties, &c., Gridiron and Cranes, situate on the South Shore of the Harbour of Auckland; that is to say:-

SHIPPING WHARFAGE.

  1. For the use of any wharf, pier, or jetty, &c., every vessel shall pay as follows (Sundays excepted):-
    1. Every licensed ferry steamer, Β£4 per quarter in advance.
    2. Every vessel under 25 tons, not included in Clause 1, 10s. per quarter in advance.
    3. Every steamer owned and registered in Auckland, and not included in Clauses 1 and 2, one farthing per ton net register per day or part of a day.
    4. Every vessel not included in Clauses 1, 2, and 3, one farthing per ton gross register per day or part of a day.
    5. Every vessel occupying a berth outside another vessel, one-eighth of a penny per day or part of a day.

GRIDIRON.

  1. For the use of any gridiron every vessel shall pay at the rate of 10s. per diem per 50 tons, or fraction of 50 tons, on the gross tonnage.

CRANE DUES.

  1. For the use of any crane there shall be paid 5s. for a registered, and 2s. 6d. for an unregistered vessel, per load.

WHARF TOLLS.

  1. There shall be paid for each time of passing on to or off any wharf, pier, jetty, &c.:
    • On every waggon (not being an express waggon) drawn by one horse ... 1 0
    • On every additional horse ... 0 6
    • On every other vehicle drawn by one horse ... 0 6
    • On every additional horse ... 0 6
    • On every barrow or truck ... 0 1
    • On every horse not drawing any vehicle ... 0 6
    • On every head of cattle ... 0 6
    • On every pig, sheep, or goat ... 0 1

GOODS WHARFAGE.

  1. On all goods and merchandise landed at or on any wharf, pier or jetty, &c. (except such as are enumerated in Clause 8), not being the produce of the Province of Auckland, there shall be paid a rate of 2s. per ton, weight or measurement, at the option of the Harbour Board.

  2. On all goods or merchandise passed over the wharf for re-shipment (except such as are enumerated in Clause 8), not the produce of the Province of Auckland, there shall be paid a rate of 1s. per ton, weight or measurement, at the option of the Harbour Board.

  3. On all goods and merchandise shipped from any wharf, pier, or jetty, for export out of the colony (except such as are enumerated in Clause 8), there shall be paid a rate of 1s. per ton, weight or measurement, at the option of the Harbour Board.

  4. On all goods and merchandise enumerated in the following Schedule the special rates affixed thereto shall be paid, viz.:

    • Landed on wharf ... Exported or passed over wharf

    • On carts or drays, each ... 1 3 ... 1 0

    • On carriages of four wheels, each ... 5 0 ... 2 6

    • On carriages of two wheels, each ... 2 6 ... 1 3

    • On cart or carriage unattached, each ... 0 4 ... 0 2

    • On cocoanuts, per 100 ... 0 2 ... 0 1

    • On horns and hoofs, per 100 ... 1 0 ... 0 6
